Forums - Sales Discussion - October 2012 NPD Thread - 360: 270k, PS3+Wii: 212k

I miss the good old days of NPD when certain companies weren't too butt hurt to reveal numbers.

Nice PSWII sales, Vita hang on!

This makes me so freaking depressed.

Finally some original good quality games ...and they just can't sell.

Wii is probably around 40k.. that's abysmal..

Well, it is what it is (dead).

I'd be more worried about that other console doing around 40k though...

PSv will do better.. it's only getting started.. Wii is just.. doing horribly for a console that dictated the game industry for several years this gen.. then again Wii u is coming out soon.. and Wii is very very outdated next to both PS3/360 and their motion peripherals..

how many time have we heard that

We'll keep saying it until its had its first holiday.

Why do you think consoles sell like 1 million on Black Friday or Christmas week? Value. Retail bundles these consoles with lots of games and maybe temporary price cuts. Vita needs both, but the games is what it needs most.

It would be the stupidest move ever for Sony to cut the price of the Vita so close to the holidays and lose all that profit......If Vita is still selling this bad post-holiday, that's when a price cut should happen. I say after its first anniverssary in February.

Poor.

So:

The pretty pathetic temporary price cut for the 360 did nothing, as I expected. A proper and serious across the price cut was needed to boost sales. But it seems Ms are happy to play this gen out.

The ps3 super slim has done nothing either, Sony may be content that is has probably helped to stop sales falling further.

The wii is dead. But then Ninty won't mind that too much as wiiU is here.

It's over for Vita. It will never get a proper foothold now.

What's your reasoning behind this? What's so important about October?

Same this comment for January once we get December results.

Its a damn shame with the Vita. And since AC Liberation is hanging on to quality by a thread (meta of 70), I think that will kill its long term sales appeal. Now well see if the COD game lives up to hype, but I always believe COD is played among consoles first and foremost.

Of course it is, there's never been an alternative.
Declassified is an alternative. A mediocre one at best from the looks of it...they need to get  a GOOD developer to make a COD game for Vita. They need to show gameplay months in advanced, not a week.

For Vita's sake, I hope Declassified sells at least 500k lifetime. It should be profitable with those sales and warrant a proper COD game on Vita.

I would have prefered a direct port of Black OPs 1 or 2 instead of this......
I will hold off on buying a Vita. I have yet to be impressed. those $199 black friday deals will be tempting though.

It's a long story. I could probably write the longest status post ever on my wall and go out with a bang, but I won't. Now, answer my question.

DKCR and Just Dance 3 didn't release in the same month.

Boom! There you have it folks, the reason why people are surprised. A bigger game releases this year but the sales are way way down

Notable (million+ sellers) 2011 Wii releases, in order of sales to date:

Just Dance 3, Skyward Sword, Mario & Sonic, Skylanders, Zumba 2, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, Lego Star Wars III, Lego PotC, Go Vacation.

Notable (million+ sellers) 2012 Wii releases, in order of sales to date:

Mario Party 9.

Just Dance 4 has not yet reached that status.

It's worth noting too that I, at least, don't consider Wii's 2011 sales to be at all impressive either. A gander at the 2011 release list likely explains it...

some of have to stop making excuses for vita peformance
