Forums - Sales Discussion - October 2012 NPD Thread - 360: 270k, PS3+Wii: 212k

I just don't get it, you people discuss the numbers weekly and yet it was mostly all for nothing. Look how inaccurate VGchartz were, they arn't considered a realible source.

*shrug*

I'm not disagreeing at all. But as long as more reliable figures for every place not called Japan are locked up tighter than a prom night date, whacha gonna do?

You could just wait for the NPD reports and media Create. Vgchartz can get the Japanese numbers right because they get them from Media Create but they make up the other regions numbers.

Youre all kinda just discussing numbers that have been made up.

Everyone poking at the 20% drop in console sales needs to realize that the entire retail sector his year is seeing 20+% drops in sales for EVERYTHING. It's an absolutely horrible year for retail sales. If the sales don't pick up soon, you're going to see a whole ton of those yellow "Going out of business" signs in January.

Be careful on those store specific purchases...you might not have a place to get service from early next year!

That said....holy wtf on 360 sales. I'm astonished they keep leading. North America seems to buy North America if you compare to how 360 is doing in other markets that don't seem to care about NA hardware.

Oh, final point. I'm kicking myself but I drove past a WII-U promotional van earlier. Somebody please donkey punch me for not taking a picture of it. They're pushing the U hard. Having played on one I really find myself confused and not liking the controller. They should have tried to find a way through all the patents MS got on it's controllerless option.

Just wait for reports from Sony. I can understand that people don't wanna wait, but waiting for numbers that are always wrong isn't really worth squat.

Basically someones said it did X amount to which it then gets dozens of replies worth over then later its revelaed to be Y amount all long.

Its like with the preorders, last week they said Black Ops 2 had 1.2 million preorders on Xbox, now that number has changed to 1.5 million, they were off by 300k?

Pokemon did worse than expected, I expected half of Black/White sales

What NPD numbers? They list them in order, without breaking down per platform. We don't even get hardware out of them anymore.

Sony doesn't release numbers, and the ones they do reveal are shipped, not sold. Plus now they're combining PS2+PS3 and PSP/Vita.....

The chart is updated weekly lmfao.

Why is that though? Why so secretive?

It's proprietary information. They spent a lot of time and money to gather that data, and (more importantly) they can charge a lot of money for it as well. The surprise isn't that they hold onto it. It's that Famitsu and Media Create are so liberal with theirs.

Although by the same token, other forms of media, like the box office, books, and music, don't seem to be so secretive either. *shrug*
