:O thank you... now i can go back to my life without caring for something I got that I never asked for :)

People were acting like as if GT 5 was the biggest bomb of the holiday. MUGEN was just responding to them. That's all.

Hardly a good comparison.  GT5 isn't a bomb by any means but it was Sony's AAA exclusive game.  Lost in Shadow in a Hudson Soft budget game.  Comparing the two just makes him look a little desperate.

oh and if you want to talk about genuine bombs, please look at games like lost on shadows..now THAT has the making of an epic bomb

Comparing GT5 to Lost in the Shadows? Sad... sad indeed

reading comprehension. Not comparing games here. -_-  but I've had this discussion already, read a few pages back for more info cuz I'm not doing it again

Dude, even if that was not your intention, that's what you did back there....

hmm no? I said saying GT5 bombed is stupid, that's like saying halo didn't sell well in Jp so it bombed. People bitch about things only in these threads but says nothing when the game hits 5mil and doing amazingly well in EMEAA.

anywho what I said was, if people want to look at a bomb, or rather a possible bomb, lost in shadows would fit that bill. I'm sure if you look it up you will see many other games for other platforms as well. Only reason I even knew about lost in shadows sales is because it was already mentioned before my post.

so no, not comparing the games themselves or even the sales here. There is absolutely no basis for comparing the games themselves. It was just an example and people read into these things too much. I've already explained this in detail few pages back, but posting again to clear any misunderstandings

So.... Again, what was the point of your last post, then? I'm more confused now x_X

The point of my first post was that Lost in Shadows did really bomb, whereas GT 5 didn't. Even with a fair comparison with enslaved it loses. Saying someone is comparing it to GT 5 doesn't make it look any better. The point of my second post was the clarification of the situation in which MUGEN responded.

No one is comparing it to GT 5. That's my point.

I could go on a rant calling out those who hyped Gran Turismo 5, but my honor prevents me from doing so. Instead, it's measly 500k in December 2010 will just make me chuckle smugly at how right many others and I, who tried to temper the Gran Turismo 5 hype train, were. If you cannot top 1 million in December, then those legs must be pretty damn short.

Congratulations to Nintendo and Microsoft, your hard work paid off and both of you deserve all the praise and accolades you are getting. The detraction is just from those who wanted you to fail, pay the haterade no attention because trying to reason with haters is like trying to reason with an emotionally distraught child.

R.I.P. Sony Move, you like Sega and Atari are showing us how vain appealing to the "core" is. Instead of focusing on the family, you are ignorantly pandered to a niche minority and it will be the death of you. I hope your demise comes quick because no one or platform deserves a slow, pathetic death with spectators whispering "I told ya so."

I am not a sony guy, as I do prefer the 360 in most cases.  However, GT5 being at 5.5M isn't a failure at any rate.  I am sure that by the end of the year, it will have another 2-3M.  I don't own GT5 and don't have any plans to get it.  Just think that the PS3 isn't going anywhere...  Atleast not up to 2nd this generation.

Good catch. I am fully aware of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and it's 3.99 (http://www.vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=Gran Turismo Prologue) sales since it was released in 2007.

Prologue's lifetime numbers are in line with my GT5 lifetime predictions. My estimate of 4 million is a tad higher.

The biggest spats I have been reading here mainly concerns GT5 vs. past GT games lifetime sales and first week sales.

There is nothing in Gran Turismo 5's preorders, currently, to make me believe there is more hype beyond the 260,000 preroders for Gran Turismo 5 to break the million barrier in it's first week.

I could be wrong, only time will tell.

The game has done much lower than many expected in just one region (Japan). It's done about what I thought it would do, thus far, in the Americas and significantly better in EMEAA. It seems that some who thought it wouldn't do nearly as good as it has can't admit they were wrong and move on. It's not a big deal to me, but let's at least be consistent.

owned...or rather in proper interwebz term..PWNED!

Best NPD months:

1.) Wii Dec 2009: 3.81 million
2.) DS Dec 2009: 3.31 million
3.) DS Dec 2008: 3.04 million
4.) PS2 Dec 2002: 2.73 million
5.) DS Dec 2010: 2.5X million
6.) DS Dec 2007: 2.47 million
7.) Wii Dec 2010: 2.36 million
8.) GBA Dec 2003: 2.26 million
9.) Wii Dec 2008: 2.15 million
10.) GBA Dec 2002: 2.14 million
11.) GBA Dec 2004: 2.06 million
12.) Wii Nov 2008: 2.04 million

So this was Wii's 2nd best December ever.  Yet some people are still with their finger on the panic button.

December 2008 really could have been much higher for Wii if they had supplied more, 5m was theoretically possible - thats why Wii sold so well in Q1 2009 (2m) even after doing 5m in Oct-Dec 2008.

Also, I have 2.68m for PS2's best December. But yeah, Wii is the first home console to top 2m in a month 4 times in the USA. PS1 did it twice. I figure NES did it 2-3 times, SNES did it once or twice, and PS2 did it once.  Genesis / N64 / GC / Xbox / X360 / PS3 have never topped 2m in a month in the USA.

I wouldn't rule out a 2m Dec in 2011 either for Wii. At $150 everywhere and retailers offering $20-$50 discounts again, the dance games still big and the big holiday game (Zelda probably), it wouldn't be a huge stretch, even if Nov fell to 800k or 900k as the breadth of software for Christmas thins a bit.

I imagine that some people have their fingers on the panic button because the Wii is down by 1.45 Million units on last Years tally.

As far as potential sales are concerned it's down massively. As the Source points out Wii had the potential to have a truly mind-shattering December in 2008, the only thing that held it back was supply. This time Nintendo doesn't have that excuse. Assuming they meet their sales projection shipments for the quarter will probably come in at around 10 million which probably would have allowed for another 3 million December.
