I don't care if this is a good move in terms of sales
its a disappointment to me as a gamer. Big time

This game will sell no matter what, but back in 2007 they expected to launch the game in Christmas 2008, Yamauchi himself said so:

At some point it just smacks of bad management to let it slip 2 years.

Right from the start he says "If we keep on the same rythim that we have now, GT5 will be ready in December 2008. That's too long for any fan to wait since GT5, but we still have many things to do".
It was probably bad management, probably some developing slow down, probably resources being pooled to the completion of GT PSP, but it's for certain that they didn't keep the same developing rythim for GT5.

Agreed... I'll just add that in the next question, they specifically ask if Christmas 2008 is the expected release date, and he says yes.
It probably also suffered from feature creep... wanting to add more and more stuff to the game to make it better, and delaying it in the process.

I reached that point a while ago. It's in my buy used when it's cheap category. It probably wouldn't have happened if I didn't buy DiRT 2. |
I'm the opposite. I've been hoping they'd push it back for a long time in the hopes they'll fix the archaic damage physics. I'm not usually big on racers, and I'm not really a car enthusiast, but the head tracking and other announced features for GT5 have me interested regardless. Because of this I'd rather wait for it to be the best racer in every way rather than just in car numbers and graphics. It's not like I'm hurting for anything to play. Hell between the website, my other job, and nursing school I'm already well-past strained for time. I'm giving up sleep completely soon. >_>

wow... by the tags under your avatar you have all consoles this gen... and probably a lot of games for each one... if you didn't have anything else to play, and had to wait for it laing down in the couch, i would be with you on this one... but with so many great games coming every month... do you really care when one game come out? in the meanwhile, play what ever makes you happy and when GT5 arrives buy it if its great and suits you...

You're right, Kaz is taking his perfectionism to a higher level but it's causing the game to be postponed even further. The latest process of adding damage to the cars also made the game to be bumped up to 2010, which means they weren't planning to release the game with damage at the moment of Kaz's interview.

It's going to have great sales no matter when it releases. It's one of the big, if not the biggest Sony games. Look at MGS4, it came out in the summer and still had great sales (It's #4 best selling PS3 game)
OT: I'm surprised that it's taking so long for this game to be released. It was supposed to be almost ready to be released at anytime, late last year and now it's not even coming out until Fall 2010 (possibly), just wow...
starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."
Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"
I think people are stupid if they don't think sony will release autumn now. they want to make the maximum amount of money, and releasing then, it will
