Forums - Sony Discussion - Is Uncharted 2 To Cinematic For It's Own Good?.... I Think So!

I think people forget how vital actually playing* the game is to the cinematic feel. You move through the campaign and get thrown into the most advanced and amazing set pieces ever created, along with superbly cinematic camera angles and possibly a character or 2 to share intelligent and funny dialog with.

Take the train sequence for instance. The sheer detail in... well, EVERYTHING creates a truly "WOW" moment. Going forward, you feel the bumps of an unstable object moving through the jungle and into the Himalayas. Around the train is a lush environment reinforced with some of the best graphical detail this side of Crysis. From the superb jumping animations, to the slowdowns Drake faces in a stealth situation, to the challenge of trying to get to that damn Chloe, to having the ability to utilize different approves and strategies, to the too of 2 two, the train sequence alone creates a cinematic feel in its own right.

Many moments in Uncharted 2 simply can't be created with mere cut scenes... and if that's all that kept you playing... then perhaps the game wasn't for you...

So can we please stop hating on the game? BHR-3, you have "I Hate Uncharted 2's Campaign A lot!" in your sig. I mean seriously dude...

stop it enough the graphx in U2 are ok they are not the best they are also not realistic in any form there nowhere near crysis or KZ2

take a look at the tall trees next time u play U2 the foliage is laughable and even looks last gen in both uncharted games the smaller foliage looks good though

and that train sequence u like so much look around next time at the areas where u go past these little villages the ground in these areas is prerendered to hell i can play checkers on it

also look at the characters hands/fingers nails very bad IMO but thats a whole nother topic to talk about

^ I don't think those glasses lenses are thick enough :p

notice u couldnt find any pics of the tops of the trees and close ups of the characters hands and finger nails like u see in the cut scenes or wen opening up the journal

those pics are not how u see them in the game either look at the camera angles also look at the fire near the bus where the smoke? look at the wall drakes climbing in the 2nd pic its prerendered the same pattern all over it

look at the wood tracks in the 1st pic they look very cartoony and unrealistic even last gen quality and the little car in the 2nd pic try standing next to one wen u play MP its laughable its not even proportion correct theres no way some1 can fit in them

the graphics are good but as far as saying there near crysis or KZ2 and even heavy rain is not debatable those games are close to photo realist especially crysis and HR, U2 sometimes i get the felling like im watching a cartoon even the skin tones in U2 characters look cartoony

A. These are in-game screenshots... it looks EXACTLY that good when your playing. And TBH, I think Uncharted 2 looks better being played than it does in these pics...

B. last gen tracks!? They have a blur effect on them due to well, your moving on a freaking train!!! If they didn't have some sort of effect, the whole experience of moving on the train would look static and drab. So it actually enhances the image... because its an effect... that's suppose to look that way... so it doesn't need detail... just the effect... Many games employ things like this. Okay, all of them.

C. I think I found a major grip that's keeping you from enjoying U2. Uncharted isn't trying to be 'photorealistic' it has its own look. Tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems that you simply don't like its art direction. Art direction does not = graphical quality. You can have the top graphics and not go for that 'from the real world' look. Thus we have Uncharted 2 as the console graphics king. Its graphical quality in areas such as resolution and effects are simply unmatched right now on consoles.

If you don't like the game, so be it. I don't see the point in dragging this out any longer.

Good day sir (leaves)

Uncharted 2 was a hell of a game, but I can only assume it is as lauded as it is, because of the total package (ie single and multiplayer); IMO the single player campaign was nowhere near as cogent, or as memorable as Drake's Fortune.

As with all games, there are flaws; some people overlook them for the enjoyment it brings, others not so much. While I see some of the flaws in this game, I still think it was a great game (I just prefer the first).

Uncharted 2 was a good game, but it wasn't a complete package. I agree with many of the points raised within the article. The single player experience doesn't justify a 100% score, not sure about multiplayer though. I would personally give the game about an 85% rating.

My guess is the critics were smoking the leftover crack they got with their GTA IV review copies.

Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?

To tell you the truth I think that Uncharted 2 looks much better (graphically) than Killzone 2. The problem is that it's a third person shooter. You will probably have a more "realistic" feel from a first person shooter (like Killzone 2), but it doesn't mean that the graphics are better.

The textures, character animations, effects, everything looks better in Uncharted 2 (in my opinion).
