Forums - Microsoft Discussion - 'Insomniac Games comments on Project Natal'

Over at the Art Institute of California-Los Angeles, Insomniac Games stopped by to participate in a panel discussion with seniors of nearby schools. Among all the questions by attenders of the event, one particular question was interesting, along with its answer.

When asked whether they thought that the XBox 360's Project Natal could revolutionize gaming, they put it simple and said "nuh-uh," or in other words, no. While this answer might not be so rare with a PlayStation-only developer, it certainly is surprising coming from a pretty big game company.

The Insomniac panel also threw out some nice details on Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time's development process. They said that they used both weapon and enemy "pots" where they could choose exactly which weapons and which enemies would be implemented into the title. Before cutting down on the amount of weapons going to be used in the game, they had a total of 60 unique items to kill your foe with.

this is probably not the best source to make up your mind on natal because this is a diehard ps3 website and a company that makes games for the ps3 but this article did catch my eye.

The only problems I see with natal is its frames per second  it only Captures 30fps that’s not that good especially when you’re going to play a game its going to lag like crazy.

Why is that so unique though? Most developers feel that it won't revolutionize gaming it seems, and it really is asking too much imo.

so they aren't developing for it then!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

is that an xbox original stacked on top the xbox360? /sarcasm

Insomniac Games non support for Natal Confirmed!

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

a lot of people are blinded by hype and Peter M's bullshit these days, when the truth is that Natal is simply a multi-infrared camera with a mic. For our gaming sake, the thing needs to fail, that's not a good future.

agreed

... What IS that on top of the 360? o.O

I don't blame Insomniac, or any other developers that are shunning Natal, I mean, it's being marketed by Fable legend Peter Molyneux, which means he's going to get it overhyped for a start, and to be honest, it seems like it's getting too much anyway.

Sure, it's all motion hands free blah blah, but with only 30FPS, it's got some limitations there, and I haven't heard anything about it being 1:1 with the user either o.O

I'm more interested in the PS Wand, I mean, sure it's like the Wii, but Sony aren't hyping it as if it's new and revolutionary, AND it seems better in technical terms, since it can capture up to 120FPS (Well, this is the PS Eye), and it SHOULD in theory be easier to develop for due to it being similar to the WiiMote.

Anyone can agree or disagree with me here, it's all opinions, but what I think Microsoft doing is making a big mistake.

developers kit

Does anyone who only owns a 360 really care about Insomniac? On that note, when's the last time they revolutionalized anything?

EDIT: And saying Natal "needs to fail" is trolling plain and simple.

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.
