Yeah, but strangly many people don't think so, its pretty obvious that we haven't reached the point where we can control shooter games without controls.

Yeah we CAN control shooter games with motion controls; but they are MUCH better with the regular joystick controls. Just look at Call of Duty 4. It came out last year and had 2 years to improve on the original and it wasn't even equal, let alone any better. Motion controls may be better for some genres, but not shooters.

No FPS are only meant to be played with a mouse and keyboard.  Analog sticks are way to inaccurate and clumsy.

If games all goto game controllers instead of mouse and keyboard it's bye bye video games for me.

That was the prevailing attitude when the NES came out and again when Xbox tried to seriously bring FPS and RTS to consoles in a PC gaming way.

Motion doesn't work for aiming but IR on Wii does and is in fact superior to dual analog unless you have developed skills with dual analog with years of practice.  Then going to IR (or even mouse) aiming feels inferior because you have no skill at it.   Fact is, analog controls brought in the standard practise of 'autolock' on target and 'aided' targeting because of inherent inaccuracy of aiming with them, which was a bastardization of the FPS to many purists.   IR aiming doesn't need either of those because of it's pinpoint accurancy, if you can aim which takes time to develop that skill set.

OT: I don't see the wiimote or Natal as the future but I do think the days of the PS2 type dual analog controller are over.   It's too cumbersome and unintuitive for anyone that didn't grow up with it.   We might see something like two nunchuks (one for each hand) with WM+ type tech and buttons for each finger and IR aiming on each - almost like holding two guns with multiple triggers and a stick on top.    Or something completely different.   Only time and consumer purchases will tell.

And the fact that it was a cash-in port had nothing to do with that?

I'm not talking about sales, I'm talking about quality. If you want we could compare Metroid or Red Steel which to games like Bioshock, Killzone 2, etc.

In terms of being the main controller supported and focused on, yes. Of course motion controllers wouldn't work perfectly with every genre so obviously normal controllers will still be around, they will just no longer be the norm.

To be honest, that's more to do with development effort and hardware capabilities than control methods.

BioShock on PS3/360 in its exact form, controlled by a Wiimote, would be close to equalling the dual stick versions in quality. Though BioShock isn't really the sort of FPS that motion control would work for. KZ2 isn't, either. CoD4 is. To a lesser extent, Halo is.

True, I mean why does have two of the analog sticks to contol sight and motion have to be your thumbs? (Of course its the best solution) They hurt after a while.
Maybe the next contols will have to use your head or legs?
Best is the brain =)

That's true, I didn't really take that into consideration. I'm just really biased against motion controls. I don't like them at all.

I think the future of consoles lies in 3-D and not in motion controls. I feel that way because the point and click feature of motion controls of some wii games is like the game is playing you and not the other way around. I like total control in my games and I cannot see this as the future for most hard core gamers like myself. I will say that I think most new consoles will start gravitating towards mouse like controls for the new consoles. This generation that frag fx has given me more control over my aiming then any other console control setup currently available. Frag FX gives "real" 1:1 accuracy and though I have not used the arc or natal yet, I believe that they will not give you that much accuracy with out auto assist or lag.
