Forums - Gaming Discussion - No Towns in Final Fantasy XIII Because They Are Too Much Work.

^ well they said making towns like they "used to" not making towns in general. The FF series had some of the largest towns and were pretty big for PS/PS2 games. Making them as big on HD consoles does take a lot of time. Also considering the fact that they lost 1.5 year working on FFXIII for the PS2 and then switching to the PS3 when developers were complaining it was a hard system to work with is quite understandable. Then again I am not buthurt about this :/

people do you even appreciate how hard these developers have worked man. all i see on every thread about ff1 is a complaint dang. I mean really those people work hard and if somethings not in that is usually in then so what there's a lot of good than bad but all you people seem to see is the bad. man no game will ever have everything you want because your human and expectations always change. But people stfu.

I'm sorry .  I didn't realize only SE have hard working employees.  They should be proud to turn out a game of this quality.  While other developers who worked on Mass Effect 2, Uncharted 2, Borderlands, NHM2, CoD: MW2 turned out ****y games.  Yeah all those games did not require hard work.  I know, they're good, fun to play, and complete, but still nobody but SE have hard working employees.

Oh yeah, before you say I don't know anything, I'm learning DX10/11 under Wolfgang Engel at UCSD.

I never said only square had hard working employees now did I. Though i did say that they worked hard. Any yeah i go to school for game programming and design. anyway its a different gaming experience than those g ames anyway to me the towns were never trully alive anyway i mean if they wanted to put them in you would have loved them with the same amount of boring npc's saying one liners huh.

Actually I wanna add something.

This is Toriyama speaking and his latest games before then didn't really have towns. What if he just doesn't like towns and chose not to include it in FF XIII?

lol soriku.

So people bitch and complain about JRPGs being to cliche but SE actually is doing things to change them up a little...and shocker people are bitching and moaning. for the love of odin!

Removing content, especially content that is crucial to the role-playing experience (exploration and interaction), is not change, it's a cost and time cutting measure. It's no different than those stupid "green" cases that are coming out, which are gutting important parts just to save money. If they truly wanted to change things up, XIII wouldn't be what it is. So much was compromised just for the sake of narrative.

They could have made it a Wii game then. Then it wouldn't be as much work to make the towns.

towns are not hard to make on HD consoles, look at most rpg's on any HD console you will see some form of towns, this article is over exageratted like all the other negative feedback for FF XIII.

if fact I am betting this is some kind of mistranslation, there is no way SE would say something like this ever, that would not be the best PR...

Uhm... jneul this is straight from square them selves ... they were lazy. and they admitted to it basiclly.

if it has come from square japan, is there even a slight chance of mistranslation?? anyways i have seen a vidoe of pulse, it doesn't look as bad as people are making out, there are towns, just less of them that's all.

anyways i can understand your point of view don't worry

Still...exploration is a big factor for any kind of RPG, its very much needed to some extent, and i dont think like many others here, square has delivered that to us, and it taken them so long to make the game to, wkc cant be compared to ffxiii however games like SO4 and LO / IU are along the same lines and they all have a fair amount of that in a less amount of time and then some...

im jus' sayin'...

heh, yeah i get what your saying to however i wont go easy on it simply because the franchise has history, i expect greatness, but so far its been nothing but a halfassed job.

Lol at all hate, people don't understand how hard it is to dev a game.

You would think, after Square Enix just announced they lost 1 and a half years of development time, people would understand why they had to make these decisions. We would have had to wait EVEN longer if they didn't cut things out or simply not add them. 1.5 years development time is a LONG time, I swear, people are clueless as to how video game development works.

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

That really still isn't any excuse.  The simple "too much work" makes more sense.

I mean, when did development on this game really start?  They had to have the heads up from Sony on when the PS3 was going to launch.

can we really call this a final fantasy without towns and minigames? is the story good enough to compensate for its content
i even heard there are some npcs you cant talk to
