It's the only game ever released that gives the player a different experience when played solo, 2 players, 3 players and 4 players. That's 4 games packed in 1.

Mario, like the Wii just prints money. You could make a game of Mario sitting on a toilet and still sell at least a million copies. Now take a game like NSMB Wii, that is fun for everyone and the question answers itself. See you at 20 million.

Agreed BY FARRRRRR.
Obviously a great game, even though I'm not buying it, I can see it's quality. However, one thing that it really has going for it is lack of competition though. There are simply no other BIG releases on the Wii in the same timeframe, and also the first BIG release on the Wii since August/September which saw MotionPlus, Resort, WiiFit Plus, etc etc... If the Wii had a release schedule like the PS360, I think the game would struggle to see sales like this. Add the constant advertising on repeat and the Holidays to the lack of competition in the line up, and you have yourself a game that will sell like hotcakes.

it would have sold 10m just based on the first half of your sentance. The second half (holidays on) is just why it did it in 8 weeks. @main topic Anyways, NSMBWii sold 10m for the same reason tetris, super mario bros, pac-man, and other similar games sell. It is simple to pick up and play, (run, jump is the core mechanic) and is fun, however it also allows for a much more "hardcore" style of play (speedruns and such). Nostalgia may have caused some people to pick it up, but since Wii is only owned by kids and grandparents I don't see how anyone could have nostalgia for a game they never played. |
Haha.
