Forums - Gaming Discussion - UK politician: Games cause kids to lose their childhood

I agree with him in to a certain extent.Games are not good for young children.Just as children shoudnt watch tv for ages they shoudnt play games for ages either.Children should be outside, learning to cope in a different enviroment and learning how to socialise with others.

he's right of course,

lets get back to victorian childwork houses, those were the days,

of course it's bad parenting,i was in a game shop the other day and a kid picked up CODMW2 or something like that and begged his dad for it,who pointed at the 15 and said not for you son, choose something else

and i've also seen a mum buy GTAIV for her 10 year old, what can you do?

I must actually apologize for the flaming nature of my first post in this forum. The combination of that guy's face and his statements made me mad very quickly :)

He's creepy looking, I told you all!

Yes, much better to have the children on the street bored, getting pregnent and hooked on drugs at the age of 13 due to the governments incompetence.

I played video games all my childhood and had a great childhood, it's all about balance. Unfortunately most parents these days can't parent and it's just dangerous outside.

but yeah ... blame video games.

if anything, playing games made me WANT to get outside and explore. i had great adventures.

but then, i was fortunate in that i was pretty balanced. i'd read like hell, play some videogames AND go outside to the valley after school. it was all quite la-di-da and now 3 of my favourite things (amongst others) are reading, playing games and being in the hills. when im in the hills i can pretend im Link 8-)

Some of my best childhood memories are tied to video games. I'm not even a fan of GTA and i still hate this guy.

That's not what he's saying. He's saying that playing God of War or GTA will cause a child to lose his (or her) childhood.

Which is, quite frankly, ridiculous, because it's no worse than sneaking into 18 movies, and much better than having underage sex, binge drinking or taking drugs, which are all a lot more likely to ruin your childhood.

Wait, what am I saying? A ten year old who kills Greek mythical creatures will go out the next day and do adult things.

Your arguments dont mention games being a good thing, instead there are just not as bad as things like binge drinking.I personally think the tv time and computer should be limited so they learn to amuse themselves and socialise with others. However im sure in some cases some people would just go out and start vandalising stuff.

Too much of anything is bad for you. But gaming in itself is not.
