You have to remember this is just temporary...the PS3 is gaining steam...if you tottal out the last quarter...the PS3 outsold the 360...it will continue to be the same....

I agree...as the dust clears for this year PS3 will be ahead...

The next PS3 price cut will probably be in 2011, when the real "PS3 Slim" will be released. My friend working at GS says Sony prohibits them calling the current 120 / 250 GB the "PS3 Slimline."

This Fall, I think MS will cut the price to 150/250/300 for the Arcade, Elite, and Ultimate (250 GB), respectively.

I think it would be better if Sony did another $50 this year and another $50 next year.

No, I don't think Sony will overtake the 360 next year, or until the Xbox 720 is released. However, I think Sony will sell more units lifetime than MS will at end of production of each console.

2011 for sure, late 2010 still a possiblity.

Every 360 fanboy/girl should admit to that. Atleast thats what I am. It's not gonna stop better games from coming out, though maybe push MS to further desperate moves or churning out their next system quicker.

Well if it's 2011 or even 2010 MS still won, PS3 was supposed to destroy 360 like Ps2 destroyed Xbox.

And if you consider just the West where most publishers operate, PS3 may never overtake 360.

If you can just consider the USA, it is certain PS3 can never overtake 360. PS3 is 7.5 million behind, it would have to outsell 360 by an average of 200,000 a month for the next 38 months to do so (early 2013). Unfortunately, for the last 3 months PS3 has outsold the 360 by 10,000 total I believe (3,000 average per month), after Slim and $100 price slash.

That is assuming the current sales paces stay the same, they will not, 360 will surge back ahead imo. Microsoft will introduce Natal, Reach, and if Microsoft has a price cut and Sony does not in 2010 which is likely, 360 will definitely outsell PS3 in the West and likely worldwide again.

All the PS3 fanboys predicting the PS3 to easily win now are forgetting history. It was predicted before, but 360 surged back ahead with the August 2008 price drop. It will happen again. I think MS will go to 249 Elite and 169 Arcade in Fall 2010. Sony is losing so much money they will not cut in 2010.

All of this is fairly obvious to happen, nevertheless some people dont want to believe it.

I suppose the Germans won World War I as well. After all, in 1914 the British thought it would be over by Christmas. Presumably, they thought they were going to destroy the Germans. But the Germans didn't surrender until 1918, so by your logic they must have won, right?

I think that your definition of the word "win" is different from the definition everyone else uses. PROTIP: "win" does not mean "put up a better fight than people expected", nor does it mean, "winning in some markets that you arbitrarily choose because they support your argument but not winning overall".

people see ps3 ahead for a couple of months and they predict it will continue to do so for the rest of the gen. they only sold better because of 100 dollar price cut and the slim introduction. if 360 cuts there prices by 50 dollars or more that basically garintees that the 360 will outsell the ps3 this year. ps3 not being able to cut as well because they havnt seen a profit with the ps3(in the hole 5 billion and counting) and another price cut would make it so they wouldnt see a profit untill at least 2011.

so sony probably wont be able to cut there prices untill next year.

the earlyist i can see ps3 passing 360 in sales is mid to late 2011. but it doesnt even matter. theres no prize for coming in 2nd place anyway.all that matters is cash. and microsoft will most likly make 2-6 billion total from 360 and sony not so good. like they will loose 1-5 billion this gen. not so good if you ask me.

I was using the term win as a relative. By every metric 360 will be a great success. It will sell 2-3X what Xbox did, etc.

I do not think PS3 will overtake it, even throwing in Japan where PS3 has no competition from 360. PS3 beating 360 in Japan is like beating a man with one leg in a race, Sony deserves NO credit for that at all. But time will tell on that. But even if it does, relative to Sony, 360 was a great success.

Since PS3 is 3+ million ahead in Japan, can we say 360 is 8+ million ahead in the West, and that in the entire world except Japan, 360 will sell more? It seems likely also.

So yeah, if PS3 wants to claim credit by beating 360 in one market that has no competition, great.
