Forums - PC - Why Piracy si so high (Mass Effect 2)

I say stop making PC games. Sucks for the seemingly miniscule amount of legitimate people that buy games still, but this barrel is overrun with bad apples, not just a few ruining the bunch.

I also find it funny that a pirate is complaining about how if he buys the copy he has to get around the things that he and others are responsible for being there in the first place. That's a great reason not to pay for it! Or you could not STEAL in the first place, then it wouldn't be there.

So your solution is to stop making PC games that could sell millions? That'll show them...

The thing is, PC is by far the biggest gaming platform in revenue, and it keeps increasing every year.

Piracy is not the same as stealing cars and other physical things. It's not the same as stealing ideas and IP. However, its still a monetary theft.

You do not have a right to play a game you have not payed for. Many pirates like to argue that its not theft because they wouldn't have bought the game in the first place thus the company isn't losing any money. They need to look at it the other way around. Piracy means you don't have to _pay_ for it. You are essentially arguing that you are a cheep bastard who refuses to pay for stuff.

Also I've heard the argument that its just bits of information and thus its free. However, that completely disregards the markup that companies charge _over_ distribution costs. You are still a cheep bastard who is unwilling to pay for the right to play a game. It doesn't matter that copying the bits and downloading them to your computer is 'essentially' free comparing to buying the box.

You do not have the right to play a game or listen to a song. Either man up that you are a pirate who takes what they can or stop doing it. All your arguments are just rubbish.

You are forgetting why a lot of devs are going multiplat to start with, and if they stop making PC games entirely, then console evolvement would slow down too since almost all the tech are from PC gaming now.

just can't resist every time a piracy debate comes up.

Limited activation DRM is intended to kill the second hand market, it's nothing to do with piracy. The trial run of it on the PC seems to have largely stalled due to customer dissatisfaction and online protests. Luckily for console owners by the way, as you'd be next.

Not that ME 2 actually has limited activations nor GfWL,  which makes the 'reasons' given for pirating it boil down mainly  to it being free.

Locked because the OP is completely misinformed, the game that has draconic DRM is Bioshock 2, NOT ME2.

As every source in the world proves

"The boxed/retail PC version of Mass Effect 2 will use only a basic disk check and it will not require online authentication," wrote BioWare community director Chris Priestly in his announcement post on their official forum. "This is the same method as Dragon Age: Origins. Digital versions will use the retailer's protection system."

OP, if you're gonna make a thread, check what you post before doing so, SPECIALLY when it's about piracy
