Well, what else is there this year besides GOW3 that might challenge it? Sure there might be unannounced titles, but imo there isn't all that much this year.

Well....If your only focus was the PS3 then I guess the only game that would matter would be GoW3.

Don't discount Halo just becuase it's Halo...a AAA game is still a AAA game.

ETC.....This year by far will have the most AAA release's.....alot more than the previous years..

Halo Reach and Bioshock 2 are the only two games I see beating out Mass Effect 2 for GOTY. GOW 3 is up in the air and most PS3 fans should be focused on that winning best action or best PS3 game which a hard fought match against GT5. 

Im not focusing only on the PS3. But of all those you mentioned i only see starcraft 2 and gow3 as a potential GOTY. And the previously mentioned ME2 ofcourse.

"new zelda", "mario game" and "metroid game" dosen't really say much since theres no solid info on them. I dont have the best update on Wii games, but that Epic Mickey or whatever seemed to be a nice concept. Although i have no idea what is is or how it will play.

But as i said.. beyond GOW3 there's not really that much that can challenge ME2 imo.

True.. i dont think GOW3 will be GOTY. Atleast not ahead of ME2, but i think its one of few games that can challenge it.

I dont have any faith in Reach after what i've read. Maybe Bioshock 2, but i think they've gone too far away from what made the original game so special to be a real threat to ME2 as a GOTY.

Come on man! seriously! LOL.....That is a good list but this is how it's going to go. Team Ico makes games that constantly go under the radar so Last Guardian is out of the picture. Zelda Wii might come out and might be good, but since when has a Wii game won GOTY? The same goes for SMG2. GOW 3 will be a GOTY contender but its only true shot at winning is best action title or best PS3 game.

Ironically the last time Wii won alot of general GotY awards was when SMG released.  Your whole basis for thinking ME2 has a shot is that the first was great and you know the second is getting reviewed high.  SMG2 is the sequel to the highest reviewed game of this generation, it has more than a shot. 

Personally I don't see ME2 winning it, because it's too early in the year and will be overshadowed by later releases.  That's why he says it is a darkhorse, because it is rare for a game to release so early in the year and be remembered enough to win GotY, that's exactly the reason he brought up Silence of the Lambs.

In spite of Mass Effect shortcomings it was the best gaming experience I had last year. That's not to say it was worthy of GOTY. Plus I didnt play any PS3 titles since I dont own one.

As for ME2 I can totally see it as GOTY. If Bioware has fixed the kinks as the early reviews indicate it is a game that stands alone. Nothing else can compare to ME's blend of storytelling, atmosphere, action and in game exploration.

To the people saying it doesnt have much of a chance because it is an early 2010 release and will be overshadowed by later titles, dont forget Bioware plans to release a whole lot of DLC. Unlike with ME1 this game was specifically designed to make DLC add ons easy and functional. If the DLC is up to Bioware's standards and is released in a timely manner and frequently the game will remain in the spotlight throughout the year.
