 Then don't comment...

lol.  Like that's going to keep me from reposting more extensive trackers...

NPD (US)
-Lost Odyssey (360) 350,000*
-Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) 130,000

Enterbrain (JP)
-Senjou no Valkyria (PS3) 140,000
-Lost Odyssey (360) 110,000
-Senjou no Valkyria (The BEST) (PS3) 80,000

US + Japan total
-Lost Odyssey (360) 460,000+
-Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) 350,000

*figure from Jan 2009

How recent is the 130k figure?

It seems like VGC always overtracks the RPG's...

Last NPD recent.  It's obscenely overtracked on VGC.

Source = Anihawk = Very sarcastic guy on GAF who has no access to NPD data.

Er... Ani's the source of like half the NPD leaks on the internet.  People at GAF literally ask him for the numbers...

He's also the original source for the DSE leak, the Spirit Tracks leak, RE DSC leak, FFCC leak...

You're thinking of creamsugar. Anihawk does not have access to NPD data, not unless he very recently got access to it.

Nope, Ani leaked ALL those.  He's basically taken over for CS since this last summer... he and several other longtime GAFers share the leak.

Nope, but you can believe what you want if it'll help you sleep better at night.

lol. Head to GAF, you find Ani's the source for REDSC, Saboteur, FFCC, Zelda ST and pretty much every recent leak.  creamsugar hasn;t been leaking for months now...

Creamsugar leaked just this past November saying GTA CW bombed on PSP. XXXX was his clue. Another credible one that has leaked a couple of NPD number is Dragoona. Most seasoned GAffers don't believe Anihawk's leaks, he gets away with posting shit like that because the mods don't mind him and because anyone with half a brain can look at his tag and see that he's BSing just to see people's reaction. Like I said, you can believe whatever you want if it'll help you sleep better at night, I think it's cute and adorable how you call him Ani though.

I'll let you in on a little secret; Dragona and Anihawk are looking at the same "leak".

LOL Nope. FYI only Junior Members believe Anihawk. Believe whatever you want but you're still wrong.

Surprising. I wish Mistwalker could port LO to PS3 so more people would play it, it is such a good game, and the success of a turn based jRPG might get more developers to stick with turn based games!

Microsoft co-owns the IP, it'll never happen.  The game in this thread that could theoretically be ported would be VC.

We could maybe see a LO spinoff for DS though...

That's why I said I wish.... To be honest, they are great games, and Mistwalker certainly need to make another game

Yeah true.  I think in a perfect world, all these games would've been multiplatform (Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, White Knight Chronicles, Valkyria Profile, etc).  I bet Mistwalker could've found a different backer if they really wanted to.

Though actually from a personal perspective it is better they are exclusive as it means they get released sooner and are optimised for their platform

I agree in theory, but in practice... well none of these games really seem to be all that fine tuned for 360 or PS3 specifically.  Hell some (3D Dot Game Heroes) already run on 100% multiplatform middleware.  Lost Odyssey even used UE3.

Yep, finally happened...

As we can see, Valkyria Chronicles has finally jumped over Lost Odyssey sales-wise. Pretty good achievement considering a number of things VC has going against it.

Lower worldwide userbase
SRPG
Been on the market for a shorter period of time.

Numbers come from this site. Don't like the sites numbers? Then don't comment...

well actually VGC had the numbers for Lost Odyssey well over 820k before ioi changed the numbers to match it with NPD.

So basically you compare NPD numbers for LO with VGC numbers for VC.

So arcording to the numbers of THIS site. Valkyria Chronicles is well behind LO.

Out of curiosity, what were the pre-adjustment VGC numbers?

AFAIR 910k or 920k. Then came a 140k downwards adjustment....

lol. I'm a little curious as why you're pushing so hard for this?  Ani's leaks are pretty much repeated everywhere, and some have even been later confirmed by other leaks (like Silent Hill/FFCC, which was reconfirmed by Destructoid).  He's close with the mods, and snarky, but if he was spreading disinformation in the NPDs threads, you can be sure Evilore would put a stop to that... they take NPD rather seriously over there (more seriously than here evidently)...

wow. lost odyssey was a major flop...That will show those JRPG developers to stay away from exclusivity on an American console dominated by shooters....

What are you talking about? 820k is pretty darn good for a jrpg.

Name me all the jrpg franchises that sold 820k+ on a home console this gen.

Final Fantasy (PS3)

Pokemon (Wii)

Monster Hunter (Wii)

Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) (And as mentioned before, VGC numbers may be inflated)

That's it.

Name me all the jrpg franchises on PS2 that sold 820k+. (the supposed "jrpg king" though IMO I'd consider DS to be the real jrpg king. But that's another debate for another day. lol)

Final Fantasy

Kingdom Hearts

Dragon Quest

Dark Cloud

Star Ocean (which Lost Odyssey beat this gen head-to-head on 360 btw).

That's it.

NPD is from jan 2009 A YEAR OLD
130,000 in jan 2009 VC sales picked up since april nothing wrong

No, the Jan 2009 leak had VC at 74k.   The 130k is from November (not last NPD, sorry).

According to VGC almost half of the games current American sales came in the last 7 weeks. November data obviously doesn't isn't of much use here. Just wait for Sega to give their quarterly report.

The game's out of stock and pretty much every electronics and toy retailer (Wal-mart, Best Buy, TRU, etc), and has been for months.  Gamestop's the only major nationwide who seems to even carry it, and then even it varies store to store and is unavailable online.

What happens if it's not mentioned in the quarterly report?  Just like it's never been highlighted in any of Sega's IR reports after the Q1 2008 interim results (where Sega said domestic sales were "steady")?

Please, the game was put on clearance in November and December at Wal-Mart. I know, because I bought several copies for gifts. I know Brett said that the large increase was due to those clearance sales at Wal-Mart and other retailers.

It's been out stock online for months.  I never checked in-store until early December though, at which point it was gone in pretty much every major metropolitan area already.  Last 7 weeks indeed...

The fact that not may jrpgs have sold well this gen (part of that fact precisely because they have stayed console exclusive on the 360) that doesn't automatically qualify 800K WW sales of HIGH-BUDGET jrpgs as succesful.

I'm sure you're missing some jrpgs that did better this gen. Just one example : TALES OF VESPERIA right now is over 830K, and it hasn't released outside of Japan for the PS3 so it's hardly a WW game.

So please don't sound so definitive when you call it "that's it, that's it" like you're throwing out facts with your little list. I'll be willing to prove to you there quite a few more jrpgs that sold better that 800K WW for the PS2. but this doesn't deserve my time so whatever... (edit: look, Xenosaga, going by VGC data sold 450K in Japan alone...data is incomplete or who knows if accurate at all but well there you go)

Lost Odyssey was an expensive game, its production assets showthis, I highly doubt they were aiming for 800K. So people saying "in your view many games are flops" yeah, whatever...
