I hate those HD consoles 3D talks... they can't even put games at 60Hz in 1080 but somehow they will do 120hz (or 200hz) in 1080?? it's just BS.

depends... will there be a 3d one and non 3d versions or will it be one pack...? who knows? |
I expect there will be 2d and 3d versions and it will be on dvd and blu-ray, but most of the ads and prmotion for it will be for the 3d blu-ray version and they will say something like "Have the true cinematic experience of the millenium at home on 3d blu-ray disc."
22 July, 2009 http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/epics-mark-rein-interview?page=3 Mark Rein: Over half the users who played Gears of War 2 so far do not have HDTVs. [Dramatic pause.] ... Mark Rein: No. My point is, of the systems that are out there now, the majority of them aren't plugged into HDTVs. So there's no way we're ready for the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox Whatever. |
3years into the life of the ps3 and 4 into the life of the 360 more than half of the userbase still isn't compelled to upgrade to HDTVs even tough they existed for a while before.
3D is a nice feature but it will take long to be mainstream.
I bought an HDTV last year and only because I needed it to properly enjoy my games. Those extra 200 lines of resolution made the text readable and all the visual details visible and I don't think 3D has a similar experience enhancing advantage. It feels more like a supplement than a complement.
yeah...
First off I get terrible headaches whenever I watch anything in 3D, and it hurts my eyes
Secondly I just got a new HDTV for Christmas. What do you think the chances of me upgrading again are?
You guys want the truth about 3D gaming on 360 and PS3?
The truth - its not going to be worth it.
There will be like 5-10 games that support it, mostly xbox live/PSN games.
Do you really want to spend 2000 dollars on a TV so you could play these 5 games?
If you want proper 3D gaming, get a 3D capable monitor (samsung and viewsonic have a bunch out starting at 249) and spend 1000 dollars on a PC instead. Trust me, you will be laughing at those console owners when they are talking about playing Chu chu rocket in 3D while you are playing Bioshock 2 and Mass Effect 2 in true 1080p stereoscopic 3D.

Hell most people have HD TV's and dont even have the ability to watch HD content yet!! I have SkyHD and Bluray but they are both very very far from mass market right now.
PS... your lot cheated calling off that game against my team... it was playable |
The reason why there still a lot of people with TVHD without HD signal is because they dont care about HD. They purchase their new TV because it was slim and sleek. There a much bigger difference between 2D/3D than 480/720 signal. It will probably show in the speed of adoption rate. Future will tell us, but im pretty sure that as soon as it is affordable for the mass market (in 2-3 years) the shift to 3D will be fatser than the one to HD only.
3D is ok in theaters, when you only have to watch a 1.5 to 2.5 hour movie. It's still unfocused and annoying and I'd rather watch the standard full HD version for the best clarity and less eye strain. Transitioning over to gaming means whoever is watching/playing would need to buy the expensive $100+ glasses, plus at sessions exceeding 3 hours which can happen quite often, I'm sure it would really start to give most people bad headaches.
3D TVs just won't make any impact for another 2-3 years minimum. By then we will be starting the next generation and won't have to worry about a thing. I still would rather have everything in the standard HD over 3D. Its cool sometimes, but mostly a gimmick, and definitely not worth it until they can make it 3D without glasses.

3D made the avatar film. The story was nothing special but the visual effects were fantastic. I have absolutely no desite to buy Avatar until I have a decent 3D home set-up (however long that may take). The difference with Avatar and many other films is it that the 3D was done to enhance the film as opposed to adding a sales gimick of having things pop-out to 'scare' you. If games and other film are desinged the same way there is no reason it won't become the standard form of media in the future (obviously we're talking at least 5-10 years here). |
I think you will find that Avatar is good in both 2D and 3D. Does it make a significant difference that would require I spend additional money, I am not so sure. If I was to look at "Up" as a recent well made 3D film then the answer is no. I cannot say the same for Avatar but when I watched Up in 2D I did not sit there thinking the 3D was so much better than this. 3D has its place but the additional outlay and the bloody glasses do not make me a fan right now.
Hence why I still think it has some way to go. Sony are leveraging it as an advantage as an organisation and I think when you see articles with titles suchs "Sony is pinning all its hopes on 3D" you realise that it may be risky. They are in a good position to be in the right place when it baloons I am just not so sure it will happen in the next few years.
