Also don't forget that GotY isn't one award, its hundreds. Games like Heavy Rain will pick up one or two (if its very good of course) even if they won't pick up anywhere near a majority.

If galaxy 2 is just a tad better than galaxy 1 and the majoirty of people think too, Mario galaxy 2 might just get 98% but there's bound to be lousy reviewer giving it a low score like 5/10, I wouldn't be suprised if Onion gave them such a low score.

You do realize that Fahrenheit (which Heavy Rain is a spiritual successor to) got a metascore of 83, and Heavy Rain looks to fix the complaints of the first game, right?

Heavy Rain will be a contender for the title like many other games this year, trust me.

Huh? There's one official GOTY and it's the one that's aired on Spike TV.

Then every magazine and blog of course have their own GOTY's and other categories, but obviously the thread-maker wasn't refering to them since he asks about one game that will win.

Hmm... it will get great reviews, but lets say even with a 97% Meta or so, do you really think the GOTY-board with it's anti-Wii biased comittee will give it to Mario Galaxy 2?

Mario Galaxy will be diminished, i think, unless it is really, really better than the original (and to be that much better would have to put it in serious contention for best game ever).

Same-generation sequels have to make significant strides, or they will be discounted, which is why it worked for Uncharted 2, but Galaxy 2's reception could be more tepid depending on how it goes.

I doubt Gran Turismo is going to get any GoTY awards. If it even LAUNCHES in 2010.

Splinter Cell: Conviction
Alan Wake
The Last Guardian

Trust me, it won't.

Not to bash Heavy Rain, because it's an original one-of-a-kind -game in these days, but there's so many factors that will hinder it from becoming GOTY. The most important being that it won't get 90% on Meta, having gameplay that is far too limited with it's QTE's and interactive cut-scenes. Other factors are comparatively low sales, niche genre and having an early year release.

They're not even out yet, how can you say that?
