Forums - Sales Discussion - As the market leader, do the wii get the respect it deserved?

While no one would admit to being a developer/publisher like this, most developers/publishers have spent well over a decade using prettier graphics and buzzwords to sell the same game year after year; and on the occasion when they break away from producing the game they produced last year, more often than not they will be producing the same game someone else produced the previous year and using prettier graphics and buzzwords to sell this game.

I honestly don't "get" the Wii, but I am more of a tech head when it comes to games and such.

However, I will not belittle it as such.

The fact that it has sold the way it has speaks volumes to the state of it. The Wii deserves all the praise one can throw at it. Truly a remarkable machine with a remarkable company behind it.

Nintendo isn't getting respect (the Wii is an inanimate object, but I know what you meant) that they deserve.
Gaming media hates them, retailers like Gamestop mismanage their titles, 3rd parties make shoddy support, and analysts insistently predict its eventual downfall.

The only people who give it/them/whatever respect are the consumers, who make it the fastest-selling console of all-time.

I feel that the Wii is suffering the same game problems that PC had when it became a mainstream gaming option and I think that is why it hasn't been getting the respect it deserves.

PC gaming grew in popularity so fast that companies scrambled to put games on it. In haste, a lot of the games ended up being shovelware or shameless, low quality rip-offs of other popular sellers.

I'm not sure the Wii was expected to sell like it did and it too left companies scrambling to release games on the system just like in the early PC gaming days.

One thing is for sure: The "Wii is a fad" detractors sure look silly now.

No...

There isn't even the honesty to admit that the Wii can sell core games well (certainly well enough to warrant making more good efforts). The gaming industry in general doesn't want to respect Nintendo, and they'll go to the point of deluding themselves to keep it that way.

I could accept that not everyone is into sales, and people don't have to respect the entertainment value of a console that doesn't entertain them personally, any more than respecting anything else simply for being popular.

Though, it would be easier to accept these "not-into-sales-and-business" people if they wouldn't try to constantly portray the Wii as a failure.

Well, considering the fact that Microsoft and Sony put mad money into media outlets and Nintendo could careless, I'm pretty sure that's key for the bashing! Oh but wait, the media is fair and unbiased! :p

Only from it's customers. Everyone else, no.

I'd say the 360 gets the most respect.

Although the Wii is the market leader, it doesnt seem to get the respect from the gaming community (industry) + media as opposed to the HD twins. The hd twins seems to be the mascot/face of gaming, and the wii is simply disregarded or ignored.

3 main reason IMO for this.

1) it lacks innovation in regards to alot of gaming aspects (graphics etc)

2) Third parties are just not selling, relative to its marketshare.

3) its has a more casual demograhic as oppose to the traditional " gaming" demograhic

Graphic is an innovation?

And here I thought it was the wiimote or mario galaxy......

It's a proven fact that it is not motion controls or revolutionary platform games that defines innovation, proof of that is Wii's poor sales and last place this gen.

Get your facts straight Sir.

Yep you sure showed me huh lol
