I'd bet otherwise. Neither of the previous NSMB games could reach a million week one, and the 3DS's smaller install base will hurt it.

Just a random Japanese game store that is polite enough to release preorder data on a daily basis. It is a small sample of the wider Japanese market, but by seeing what people are reserving at a single store, we can guesstimate some upcoming titles.

It's not perfect, of course. COMG patrons tend to be PlayStation fans and more hardcore than your typical Japanese gamer. But it's a useful tool.

So ompared to the marios:

NSMB DS : 688 pt
NSMB Wii: 1072 pt

Waayy down.. but if 3D Marios are anything to be compared to, then we're looking at around 500k FW physical sales

The digital sales for Mario could be huge. This will be a big test to see how it does on the digital side.
