Red line was for Pokemon's first day on Saturday... the blue line is Monster Hunter this morning. =D Also what I have read from gaf it seems the game is sold out pretty much everywhere. Hopefully Capcom provides new shipment daily.

No way!!!! That's insane!! Twice longer than Pokemon BW!? I might win my bet. YAY! Just hope they ramp up more to meeet up the demand. GO CAPCOM!!

I was one of the few who expected Kirby >> DK. Obviously kirby didnt do well cuz it went out of the roots of the normal kirby game. But still many were convinced of a 300k FW with 1m LTD.. it's not looking good at all. It seems it will barely break 100k FW. Not good enough imo

Stop taking my hopes away!

Above: still the best game of the year.

Congratulations to the PSP to have such a big game releasing in Japan in it's late years.

But it won't beat Pokemon's FW,and it wont even come close to it's lifetime sales. My opinion..

Random thought, but I just imagined that PSP2 is going to be very well received in Japan when it comes out.  Put one of these babies on it as a launch title and *BOOM* goes the dynamite.  The launch timetable is just about right too....

Unless they make the next MHP on the 3DS...

Anyway, wow at the lines :o Well deserved IMO. I hope they make MH4 soon too.

They might. Or maybe they like the idea of being the most dominant game on a platform.  And maybe the PSP2 could have some online advantages?  Should be interesting.

And also, there really is no reason not too.  How many more sales could have been achieved on the DS?  It's already one of the biggest, not like the DS would make it bigger than Pokemon or something.  But again, I guess we have to wait.

Not the DS though...the 3DS. The 3DS already has hype come from every side, PSP2 isn't announced and who knows how well it's receieved compared to the 3DS. It's not like Capcom has some sort of obligation to Sony, they could move the series to the 3DS if they wanted to. Not saying the PSP2 can't get it, but moving it to the 3DS sounds like a good idea to me.

I know the 3DS.  Of course it has hype, but how much more can it do for the game that the DS couldn't?  I just don't see a necessary advantage.  I don't think it would see that drastic of a boost in sales when it's already doing numbers that are borderline pokemon.  On top of that, Capcom knows there is a gigantic fanbase on Sony's platform that is most likely guaranteed to be there for PSP2.  I know the 3DS and PSP crowds overlap to a degree, but why risk it when the money is already guaranteed?  Also, I think it's pretty obvious that it stands out far more on the PSP than it would on the 3DS.  Why compete with Pokemon and all the other games it will get.  Again, it will do 5 millionish sales on either platform. What's the motivation?

You say it would sell 5 millionish on either platform...OK. So when why not put it on the 3DS then which is going to be out sooner and should have more attention overall? At least on the 3DS Nintendo could continue to market it in the West like they did for MH3 (which is still selling).

Also, what competition? Pokemon or DQ or whatever won't give it competition. People will continue to buy those games on the 3DS either way.

you think the 3DS will sell alot in its first year? i think capcom will release a MH game on it but not that soon. maybe after a year or two. i think capcom will have to put alot of time and effort in the game since it has 3D and all...

Well, the launch timetable for a new game might fit better with a PSP2 launch than a 3DS launch as it's coming sooner (the 3DS I mean).  I don' think the title needs any more attention at this point, it's not like people will forget about it.  I mean, they could just put it on everything, but I just don't see PSP2 NOT getting it.  It would be a colossal waste of potential (and a I say "potential" loosely, because it's basically guaranteed) revenue not to do it.  Unless you see the title being the preeminent title in Japan and being bigger than Pokemon, I see no reason that is worth a change from guaranteed money.

PSP2's launching at the end of 2011, and if rumors are true it's around 360-level spec.  Why would Capcom put together a HD level MH less than year out from MHP3 launch?

I'm pretty sure MH will come to both 3DS and PSP2, but no, it won't happen anywhere near launch for either system.  As for the incentives on doing MH for one system or the other exclusively, I think they'd probably sell similarly on either, but on 3DS Capcom would have lower development costs (lower spec, can reuse Wii/PSP assets) and likely far better western potential (3DS is a sure bet in the west, PSP2 far less so).

MH3P to do 3 million FW?? lol.. just insane. I dont want it to happen, but wow if it does!

@Beuli

We have to face the facts!! DK is dooomed!

I'd say the Western potential is your best point.  Hard to argue. The only thing I could maybe say is that MH sales in Japan are much more overwhelming than in the West, so maybe it won't hold TOO much sway.....

As for the develeopment costs, why wouldn't they have done that already?  Why didn't they pick the DS if that's what they cared about?  And surely it would be easier to translate PSP assets to a future PSP than to a future DS.  Right now my guess is PSP exclusive, followed VERY closely by multiplat.  I just couldn't fathom how dumb a move only 3DS would be, considering how much they'd be losing in Japan.

I personally think it's hardly likely that we'll see an MH on the 3DS. The success on the PSP has been phenomenal, and there has to be some sort of  deal for the next gen imo

Isn't capcom always releasing new numbered part of MH at stationary console ?

So MH4 would come to PS3 (since it's only platform without MH game so far) in 2011 and to one of portables in 2012 ? And if PSP2 truly is 720p machine then PS3-> PSP2 way makes even more sense.
