I think that DQX will sell well on the Wii or on any platform with a considerable base in Japan. My first post was just referencing too Soriku's post in which he did mention Wii's big base, which isn't as active and lively as it should be.

My whole opinion on this  Japanese third-party support thing for the Wii, is that Japanese devolopers should have tried a couple of years ago the Sengoku Basara 3 formula for the title's for which it is possible, but that it is now way to late to change things.

Oh, I don't disagree with that. But, I also think even a "sleeping" base works for something like DQ though, it's basically like Mario in terms of brand strength... even if people don't often play their Wii, they'll dust it off for Mario.  And in Japan, they'll also dust it off for DQ, with more mainstream games, the bigger absolute base invariably matters.

An "active" base tends to be a bigger issue for more focused or niche titles, and less so for mainstream ones.  Back when GameArts was developing Grandia for the Saturn, Famitsu asked them why they were making the game for Saturn and not PlayStation, and GA's response was basically that while PS had the far bigger base, Saturn had the more dedicated audience and they felt their specific game would actually do better there as a result (and it did btw).  I think it's much the same with PS3/Wii right now, the more "mainstream" stuff would do better on Wii (ie: DQ, Taiko, etc), the more "targeted" stuff would do better on PS3 (ie: Tales, Musou, etc).  Obviously there's specific cases where the opposite works out for whatever reason, but I think that's the general trend.

In a perfect world DQX and FFvXIII would be PS3/Wii multiplat day and date. I'm willing to bet the PS3 version would outsell the Wii version on both games. Well actually in a perfect world, they'd be moved to the 3DS, but I'd still like to see this showdown. Will never happen though.

Versus would sell more on PS3, but I think DQX would still sell more on Wii.  The significantly bigger base plus the wider appeal of the game would mean more Wii sales most likely... out of all the Japanese PS3/Wii day-and-date multiplatform games, two have sold better on PS3 (Sengoku Basara 3, WE2010 Blue Samurai) and one on Wii (Sonic World Adventure) and both are likely because their specific bases were more consolidated on those machines beforehand.

I disagree, I think DQX and FFvXIII would sell better on PS3. Now something like  Deca Sports or Karaoke Joysound would sell better on Wii.

I don't see why, there's not really anything like DQ on PS3 already to build that market.  The closest thing is FF, and that has a rather different audience.

In Japan DQ is an "everyone" game, more like Mario than FF in terms of brand.  And Wii is the "everyone" system (well, after DS), that's generally why it would do better on Wii versus PS3, plus the disparity in userbase (10m vs 5m).

Ninokuni would've sold better on Wii too imo.

Again, I disagree. DQ is everyone but not in the sense of a Karaoke Joysound or DecaSport, same with NiNoKuni, I think anything that has some kind of core appeal will sell more on PS3 even if they are mainstream (DQ, NiNoKuni, FF,MH). We're gonna have to stop here because we're not gonna agree on this and we'll most likely never find out :P

DQ is "everyone" in the same way Mario is "everyone".  I guess you also think NSMB would've sold better on PS3. ;)

Not to sure about that. Every Japanese I know that plays FF’s also plays the DQ games, and  FFIX was once pushed back because they didn’t want to release it to close to DQVII, obviously because they share(d) a fanbase.

During the years, unlike the DQ franchise, the FF franchise has become a lot smaller in Japan. In my opinion because they are all too different and sometimes fans can relate to it anymore, while DQ has always kept that traditional style, but I would be suprised if they didn’t share a big fanbase anymore. Ussually when people are done with a RPG and love the genre, they move to the next one and on the Wii there just aren’t many of them, and the few B-tiers (Graces, Xenoblade) that have been released and have all underperformed.

DQ's grown because it's maintained it's core audience through the years while simultaneously expanding into new players.  I'd agree, this is something FF hasn't done so well... again it's more comparable to something like Mario.  It's an established nostalgic player base mixed with a fresh young player base. And really, DQ changes quite a bit between installments itself, it's really a misnomer to imply it doesn't.  DQV, DQVII and DQIX are just as different as FFV, FFVII and FFIX for example, if not moreso.

And pointing to Tales or Monolith Wii RPGs as underperforming doesn't really account for much when those same exact things have underperformed equally or worse on DS (Tales of Hearts, Tales of Innocence, Soma Bringer, etc).  And yet, somehow DS is still home to the best selling Dragon Quest ever... think about that, it's pretty easy to guess why that is...

I didn't say that DQ doesn't change, but they always have a similar style and when you play one it as familiar feeling to it, unlike something like FFXIII that could just have been called "Eternal Eternity", and nobody would have associated it with the past FF's. I liked it by the way, even though it's one the worst in my opinion.

One of the reasons that DQIX performed so well is my opinion was because of the social aspects and the 1 save-file issue.

And for every DS Jrpg's that has underperformed you can probably name another one that sold great, good or okay. There just a lot to choose from and keep you busy till the next DQ is released, and on the Wii there aren't that many to choose and the current audience hasn't shown any interest at all.
