Modern Warfare 2 smashes past $1 billion sales

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has crossed the $1 billion mark in retail sales worldwide since its launch in November, according to internal Activision estimates.

In its first five days alone, the game sold an estimated $550 million worldwide - outpacing five-day worldwide theatrical box office gross figures for such films as Avatar, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and The Dark Night, (at least, that's according to internal Activision estimates and boxofficemojo.com).

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has exceeded our expectations and shattered theatrical box office and video game records," said Robert Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard.

"There are only a handful of entertainment properties that have ever reached the $1 billion mark, which illustrates the power of the Call of Duty franchise and mass appeal of this game."

Amazing.

3 weeks.

It actually only made ~$250 million first week. But what surprised most people was the coming weeks; the movie still makes around $200 million each week.

anyway wii fit has probably grossed over 1.8 Billion

depends what he means by a handful

if its a handful of pebbles he means around 10 - 20

if its a handful of peas he means around 50 - 60

I accidently misread the post and thought it said highest grossing game of all time. I then started to talk about Wii fit and realized my mistake and quickly changed it. Btw, does anyone remember what gameboy games cost when they came out? Just wondering.
