Errr... no.

If we didn't have Sony then we wouldn't have 256 players online at the sametime in the same game. X-box Live and Wii's online infrastructure don't handle that sorta thing.

If we didn't have Sony we wouldn't have dedicated servers in console games (related to point above).

If we didn't have Sony we wouldn't have user-created content and mods appearing in console games like LBP and Unreal Tournament 3.

So Sony going is a good thing how?

Why not?  What is the technical limitation that won't allow 256 players on Live?  A game can have dedicated servers on Live if a publisher chooses to have them.

Inability to make things by themselves, heh. Sony are the 2nd largest consumer electronics company on the planet. They own one of the big 5 hollywood studios. They own the 2nd biggest record label on the planet. They are at the absolute cutting edge of electronics tech, but mysteriously according to you they cant make things by themselves. This stuff gets more comical by the day.

 

MS stand 0% chance of turning gaming into a monopoly.

At least my thread has actual points to it.  If you don't want to discuss them then leave this thread but don't try to make a thinly veiled ban threat again.  Lets get back on topic people, no more attempts at thread derailment.

This has to the the dumbest thread i have seen yet. Sony the very best in Video Games, PS1 , PS2 Best sales in History. The most games on a console, Put sega out of Business. Now they come with the PS3 which is the bset of them all, ONLY 5 MILLION behind MS , and MS had over a year head start , and a christmas holiday 2005-06. PS3 may of not started the strongest, but its on its way back to the top. No company stays number 1 for 20 years straight with out a few bumbs in the road.

They seem to be helping to put some third-parties out of business.  This thread lists reasons why Sony should leave the hardware side.   It's not about past glories it's about discussing if it would be better for third-parties and Sony if they left the hardware side of gaming now.  Also you might want to check your math since the PS1 wasn't launched 20 years ago.
