I agree both with Kantor and Khuutra.
I play games because of scapism and immersion and because I am eager of stories (jrpgs and cinematic experiences are most of the time my favourites for some reason).

I like gaming for a large variety of reasons. Story, exploring strange new worlds, meeting the characters created by others, engineering a society or empire, building my own city, many many reasons.... The vast beauty of Skies of Arcadia, the rich setting world of Final Fantasy 8, the vast history of Xenogears/Saga, the many worlds to conquer of Civilization, or taking another trip across the world of Super Mario Brothers 3, or again taking part in the true Legend of Zelda, the Ocarina of Time, or trying to complete Faxanadu as fast as I can... There are many many reasons; and the reasons I listed for the games above are only a small sample of the reasons why I like those games....
Achievements are not a reason though, I don't see any significance to them unless they unlock new content. Otherwise they're kind of a practical joke, something very cheap for doing a lot of hard work.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
I enjoy solitary in single player.
I enjoy watching people playing share what I like.
I enjoy playing local multiplayers.
Online multiplayers, least enjoyed for me.
I remember when I was high on crack cocaine... video games helped me turn my life around.

Its just a fun thing to do. Some people watch a lot of TV, I choose video games as my main entertainment source.
I don't love it. Right now I just tolerate it.
But when I used to love it, I did because of atmosphere and immersion. Not the kind of when you're in a dark world like in Bioshock, but more the type of Panzer Dragoon and Ocarina of Time where the environment is calm and magical.
Nowadays I've been mostly enjoying DS games that are arcade-like, which is fun at times but I don't love those as much. The western cinematic ones with violence for the sake of it and "epicness" are intolerable to me.
I can go anywhere , just take a look it's in a game it's gaming rainbow!
