Most people I see bashing it are calling it "boring" or "more of a video than game" with an occasional "Battle system sucks, gil too low".

Why is there so much FF hate from reviewers?

I expected this game to linear... but that's not what interests me about it... it's the really pretty graphics, and the atmosphere of the settings, which reviewers tend to skim over.
