Forums - Sales Discussion - GI.biz: TOP Selling Games of 2010 - Halo Reach #1, FFXIII #2, GT5 #10!!

Actually, World at War is nearly at 11.5 million without counting PC which would probably bring the total up to around 13-14 million minimum and I somehow don't see Halo Reach (pardon the pun) that number.

cod and FF13 yes great but nsmb will be the biggest seller in 2010
You can't join the site unless you are a student or work for the gamebiz

It sounds like they are trying to ignore the Wii on purpose
Makes you wonder about so called pro's

I'm no expert but half the people on this site know more then those morons

This is great. I noticed they put Modern Warfare 2 up there, meaning they allow older games...

Even if we assume this is only in the U.S., the top 10 would have NSMB Wii, Wii Sports Resort, and Wii Fit Plus in there.

But wait, Fifa is in there? Worldwide, say goodbye to half that last, a few can't even handle Mario Kart Wii, let alone Zelda / SMG2.

In the U.S. alone, GT5 being #10 (or not even making the list) is actually possible, when you consider Nintendo's titles and multi-platform games.

Oh. CoD7 is the sales winner of 2010 then (unless you only count the sales that actually are in 2010, but I'm not up for such games).

These guys shouldn't be taken seriously if thats what they came up with.

this list is laughable, but here are my thoughts (world wide lifetime sales, so 2010 and on sales)

* 1. Halo: Reach - could do 10m
* 2. Final Fantasy XIII - Do we count Japanese sales? If So, why isn't NSMBWii on the list it launched in 2009 too Overall western market 3.5m units (6m total with Japan)
* 3. StarCraft II - no comment, but I'm sure this will move a lot
* 4. Call of Duty 7 - 10m combined
* 5. FIFA 11 - 8m combined. (if this is US only, these guys are on some serious drugs)
* 6. BioShock 2 - 3m combined, doesn't really deserve to be on the list.
* 7. Mass Effect 2 - 2-3m doesn't deserve to be on the list
* 8. God of War III - 3m doesn't deserve to be on the list.
* 9. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - what? this isn't a 2010 game. where is NSMBWii, Mario Kart, or Wii Fit?
* 10. Gran Turismo 5 - 8-10m, just don't understand why it is on the bottom.

games missing

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 7-8m
Zelda Wii - 5m (could easily do more, giving pessimistic prediction), more deserving than those 2-3m games
Wii Vitality ??? (heck, every other peripheral took off, so whatever )
Pokemon Gold/Silver 6m in western markets (pessimistic view due to remake status, also are we counting portables?)

Also, any of the continually selling Wii or DS games could easily bump those 2-3m sellers out of the list if we aren't counting games released before 2010, however Modern Warfare is in the list, so I don't know what to think.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit
11/03/09 Desposit: Mod Bribery (RolStoppable)  vg$ 500.00
06/03/09 Purchase: Moderator Privilege  vg$ -50,000.00

HAHAHAHAHA

That's our industry...

Assuming they are talking only NEW releases for the coming year, this is more likely.

1. New Wii Sports/Wii Fit title (Wii)
2. New WoW Expansion (PC/Mac)
3. CoD 7 (PS3/360/PC/Wii)
4. Halo Reach (360)
5. GT5 (PS3)
6. New Zelda (Wii)
7. Some Pokemon game (DS or Wii)
8. FFXIII (PS3/360 US/EU)
9. Starcraft II (PC/Mac)
10. FIFA (ALL)

The other contenders for 2010 are
Bioshock2 (360/PS3/PC)
Gears of War 3 (360)
LEGO Harry Potter (ALL)
SMG2 (Wii)

It's a statistical sample of industry members (with a self selection element), so in that sense it somewhat implies we shouldn't take the industry seriously.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Does FIFA sell so much cos it's on many platforms? (is it on Wii PSP and stuff, along with HD+PS2?)

R u serious about FF13 sales. Only 3,5 mil in the West? I thought the last FF sold like 5 mill in the West, but I may be wrong, i forgot lol. So being the first FF in a very long time, on a new gen, and on two consoles should lift the sales from the last FF.
