Good decision by EA. I hate people thinking sport stars should be a role model for anyone, they're not. They're humans that are good at what they do, and it happens to be that what they do gives them money and publicity. John Doe cheats on his wife, he gets a divorce and the only people to ever know are the family and friends. Tiger Woods cheats on his wife and everyone is horrified. I mean, come on, what the fuck do you care what Tiger does in his private life? This is why I hate when star's personal lives get press, who cares who's dating who and who's cheating on who.

And I agree what someone said in this thread, it's not like EA had much choice, I mean, who else is known worldwide in golf other than Tiger? Absolutely no one

LOL good effort, doesn't quite have the same ring does it?

Totally agree with zexen, anyone using a sports star as a role model for the personal life is setting themselves up to fall. Tiger is human, and humans fuck up, sometimes in worse ways. For cricket Ricky Ponting is a role model of mine, how he plays the game, how analytical he is. But as a role model for my personal life, I simply don't know enough about his for him to be a role model. For all I know he relieves stress after a game by snapping the necks of a bag full of kittens and breeds puppies just so he can set them on fire after stabbing their eyes out. Same applies with any sports star, you just don't know unless you know them personally.

This whole public lynching is crazy, the only reason the media give a shit is because of how much money they can make from the stories. Its not like they actually care about the dubious morality of adultery.

Disagree. This is a good chance for them to change the name and re-invent a stale/boring franchise. If they rename the series "PGA Tour 20**" then they can totally get a fresh new start.

Apparently the wii version is very good but the PS360 versions are mediocre at best.

The media and the bible tells me what 2 do so fuck that immoral sinner woods, I mean did he ever inspire anyone to acheive greatness or anything? I mean like no one else ever cheated on their wife/ husband/ girlfriend/ boyfriend. RIGHT?

The simple fact of the matter is that there is no other golfer that comes close to Tiger Woods status or renown. Tiger Woods is golf to the mainstream public. Non-golfers would struggle to name two other golfers. EA of course wants a broad an audience as possible and that means keeping Tiger.

Some women may refuse to buy it because of Tiger but I don't think that'll hurt sales too much. Also the next edition isn't due for a while, hopefully things will have blown over by then.

Really the only problem is Tiger is no longer playing golf.... At least, not currently.

EA is sticking with Tiger Woods (at least for right now) for the following reasons:

1. The partnership is based upon golf results.
2. The product is one generally bought and used by males. (The products dropped females have input on purchase, use, or both).
3. The on-line game which is coming out was too far in development to change/drop.
4. The contract may not have any termination clause.
5. The on-course results are still good.

My guess is that as long as Tiger comes back to golf in a relatively timely manner, EA will continue with him throughout the terms of this contract. However, I will not speculate as to whether or not the partnership is renewed or further expanded.

On two other notes -- EA does not NEED a name to sell its games. It only uses them for football and golf. In football, Madden became the flagship franchise in a crowded field. In golf, Tiger's name was attached to the last game standing -- after the wars had already been fought. In other words, PGA Golf would sell with or without a name -- just like NBA, NFL, and FIFA on the EA side (as well as other sports on the 2K and Konami sides).

Finally, the fact that Tiger did not remain true to his wedding vows -- while unfortunate -- is not surprising. That happens with much frequency. And if had been an occasion (person) or two or a long-term relationship, I think the furor would have been much less. But what captured the attention of the media and the public was the magnitude (number) of relationships. Many athletes (Wilt Chamberlin) and actors (Warren Beatty) have been known for their numerous romantic liaisons, which far outnumbered Tiger's. However, the biggest difference was that they were not married at the time. That is what changes you from "player" to "cad."

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

It's very sad that some people can't enjoy a "just" good game....

If the games in your games collection are really the only one you own and you don't play much else, then I see why you might think that. But believe it or not. There are enjoyable games out there which don't get a mention in GOTY contests.

I'm impressed!

OT: Why would EA drop him? He's the best known golfer in the world... in fact, even more so now! I might not agree with his life choices, but he should still be able to do his job. His actions have already bitten him in his arse in his personal life, I see no reason why his proffessional career should suffer. I think his biggest mistake was thinking Karma wouldn't come back to him.

He shags around with pretty women. And just doesn't care.
What a boss.
