Forums - Gaming - Crunch time for the PS3

PS1 and PS2 were never ever called diasters they were always praised as the best thing as sliced bread, their sales never considered anything close to disasterous,
People believed the hype on both of them, this time the hype fell through and couldn't save it.

Was there much R&C marketing done?

Since it came out i've seen more R&C adds then I have Nintendo and Microsoft adds combined.  If my ancetdotal evicdence is believed i can see it not selling as i've saw stores seemingly near full stocked of the game.

Dynasty Warriors should be interesting.  I think the last couple didn't sell that well.  Though this will be the first one on the PS3 so the graphical update might get people out of their chairs.

That bundle sounds sweet.  Was kind of pricey though because of the metal faceplates from what I remember.  If sales increase i doubt it'll be because of the bundle, i'd expect more people to buy the PS3 and game seperetly. (I think it was cheaper that way) and a few fanatics going all out for the faceplates.

Who is on the faceplates will matter too... I believe their are 5.  Guan Yu you'd think would have to be on their, as would Liu Bei, and if both of them were in you'd have to put Zhang Fei in too... then Cao Cao and which Sun?  Quan?  While he was their near the end, he's the least popular I believe.

Umm, give the forty gig more than a day before you judge and say that it failed... It came out on November 2, and the sales were for the week ending November 3. The PS3 sold 35k+ copies of Motorstorm, so you can safely assume that at least 30k of them were the 80 gig pack, maybe even all of them but that leaves 20-25k not being the eighty gig and with the sixty gig becoming increasingly harder to find, 20k of the others sold could have been the forty gig, so it at least sold that much of it's stock if all of the motorstorms sold were the bundle. Let's wait until next week before we say it bombed or not.

This isn't surprising. As said, software lacks and price exceeds. Not a good combo.

But I still see PS3 as an XMAS 2008 thing. Even Sony said they didn't expect very much this Christmas, citing 2008 as buy time.

In my opinion, with all the new software out, and thus the advertising that comes with them, PS3 will seem fresh by 2008, as if it's a new console.

Come on Shams, give it a break. At least TRY to be somewhat neutral. If I was a PS fan, I'd be really pissed by your postings. You're spinning every single charts thread, start 3 bashing threads a day... try to make VGChartz a little better and stop it. Even though I'm 100% Nintendo gamer, I am tired of reading "war is over" "PS3 failed" and so on. It's childish, you're only making people angry, and that's the last thing a mod should do.

It's not bashing, it's reality. PS fans shouldn't be on sales websites if they can't handle it, because it's a fact that any discussion involving PS3 sales will not look good for the PS3. The information is out there and it has to be discussed.

He wasn't talking about in America. He was saying (i believe) that numbers in Europe are already dropping back down to pre 40 gig numbers pretty hard, when combined with ancetdotal evidence shows that people don't really want the 40 gig and it isn't going to be much help when it is released in Japan and America.

I'll wait for NPD's figures. The PS3 is more desirable this holiday season even in the US according to research.

"The Nintendo Wii was the highest-ranked console, coming in No. 8 overall and edging out the PS3, which was No. 9 choice. The Xbox was ranked No. 12.''

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

@ Kasz216

I was saying that to anyone in general, who was saying the forty gig bombed...

Of course if we'll ever see NPD's figures that is, rather strange timing considering PS3 sales should be improving and XBox 360 hardware have gone beyond its peak. Now we have to rely on VGchartz to provide us with public data? Hopefully Sony releases data regularly to be able to verify.

Anyway according to the survey US Men prefer the PS3 over the Wii, the Wii is the most preferred console amongst the ladies. For Europe, Japan and the rest of the world I think it's quite likely the PS3 is going to outsell the XBox 360 this holiday season.
