I also miss Empire Earth
wait... thats not the game were taking about?
Well why not, its a far better game, with far more depth.

horrible 3D graphics, worse campaign, balance issues and a few other small flaws.

I still liked it, but it's nowhere near Age of Empires or any other major RTS series.

I take Empire Earth 3d graphics over that cartoony look.  I played the game in and out and it was very balanced.  Far more that most RTS I play and I play a lot.   No RTS to this day hase given me the depth of Empire Earth.

I played the campaigns and some were ok others I dont think I even finished and the single player was utterly boring.

The game shined in the online aspect.  The custom civ and the amount of epochs along with the custom scenarios made the game better than anything else I have touched.  This includes legends like AoE and Starcraft.   It is a much more in depth RTS than it appears, not for likes of a casual RTS player but someone who is willing to devote hours among hours perfecting a strategy.

The graphics in AoE are not cartoony at all. Just 2D and one of the most beautiful 2D graphics I might add.

The only thing that was really impressive in Empire Earth is the amount of epochs in the game.

out of all I said thats all you took from it.  It looks drawn.  Which I dont like that type of art style.  Getting past graphics is one thing.  The gameplay felt to restrictive in AoE.  Custom Civs just allow for so much customization.  I also like the fact that everyone has the same units.  It adds a balance to the game not seen in most RTS

No I actually also mentioned the epochs.

I think AoE >>>>>> Empire Earth; you think Empire Earth >>>>>> AoE which is totally fine.

I just don't like when random people come into a thread and criticize an universally acclaimed game and then mention a game that is better in their opinion (especially when those people are in the minority with their opinion)

If you want to talk about Empire Earth and how you miss it because the 3rd game was absolute horrible, then make a new thread.

IF they still had the servers online, I would be playing that game right now....One of the best RTS game I have ever played...and the first!!!

Currently Playing: Mass Effect (360)

My family plays AoE 1: RoR every week, it's great fun and still very competitive after all these years.

It's still possible to play it online, it took me ages to find out how after zone closed, the program works really well if you get a good connection.

http://www.gameranger.com/ <-- try it and enjoy online AOE once again ;)

You can even use it to make AOE multiplayer work under vista which was a real nightmare before.

Playing : PC  AOE, DiRT 2, Runes of Magic, Wings of Prey & Planetside 2

Wii U : Nintendoland, Super Mario U  & Fifa 2013 demo

But they still have servers online. Thousands of people are playing Age of Empires II multiplayer and you'll even find hundreds playing the original Age of Empires.

How's this work? Do I need to purchase the game again?

Oh most likely not(if you already have the game, of course). I used a different service to play AOE2 online and I was never required to repurchase the game, so it's more than likely that you won't have to purchase the game again.

Whoa wait... BACK UP... your sayin i might be able to still play The Rise of Rome Online???

Thats Exactly what I'm saying.

Just try out gameranger it works like Gamespy...but much better.

I really liked it but it never had lasting appeal to me. The fact that civs were so very similar was very off putting to me and just boring. Starcraft really hooked me on though.
