i see no reason why NSMB wii wouldn't be there, don't even talk about not innovating. Look at some of the games on the GC list.
currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X
I crossed out all games that shoudn't have over 90 now look at the results. 7 wii titles 16 wii titles. Out of those games
Melee<Brawl, Galaxy>Sunshine. So quantity=/= quality
So basicly Wii>GC
If you're going by 90+ on Metacritic, then the answer is no. As you can see, something has changed. Back in the GameCube days, they'd give 90+ scores to sports games. They gave 90+ scores to 10 sports games on the GameCube. They have given NO 90+ scores to sports games on the Wii. Why that is, I'm not sure, because the Wii is just better at sports games than the GameCube. For example, it's better at golf, baseball, tennis, bowling, and boxing. In fact, they can put all 5 of those sports onto one disc and sell over 50 million copies of it, so I think they're doing something right. But the critics just don't like sports games on Nintendo systems anymore for some reason. Once a sports game sold over 50 million, I guess critics thought they sold out, so they gave up on the whole genre.
I can't stop laughing at Metadarlings. I think I'll use that from now on.

More like Critics don't like anything on the Wii unless its one of the three core franchises or Resident Evil. If you look at the top games for Wii, there's only 5 main series which have achieved a 90 score (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Smash Bros, Resident Evil). And a few of those games are rehashes of GameCube games. The few other games that get above 90 on the list are a WiiWare title, a cross platform title that got high marks everywhere and a PS2 port. It seems like they just stick everything else with a purposeful 8.9 or lower for the system, mostly because its either on the Wii or because of graphics. Or both. In other words, its not so much that reviewers are against sports games on the Wii, but prejudice against Wii games overall.
This is also why you can't use review scores to rank 'AAA' status for anything. WHat's an 'AAA' game to a reviewer this gen? Apparently, if you want to go by scores, stuff like GIAIV, MGSIV and Mario Galaxy sure....right along side tons of collections like God of War collection and Metroid Prime Collection as well as ports of past games like Resident Evil 4 and Okami. Sorry, I understand those games were great and they still are. But some games on the Wii are still as good (or better) than past games on the GameCube. Reviewers need to stop using their broken score system and bias to elevate older games and push down games they personally don't like.

In that case, how many AAA games does the Wii actually have?

According to many people, only a handful made by Nintendo itself. Since only Nintendo has been making games that would be considered on the level of games that could compete with the HD games.
But I think, since Wii isn't competing with the HD systems and is in its own category, it should be more of a measure of what constitutes a 'high quality' game for that system. Is Tales of Symphonia 2 AAA? Madworld?
Personally, I'd definitely count Monster Hunter Tri. Along with the recent Resident Evil outings, eventhough they're rail shooters. Heck, for a Wii title, Muramasa is even bordering on the high quality level. But most people won't count that simply because its a 2D game that was made by a small studio and didn't cost tons of money to make. Its a question of what you think consists of 'AAA'. 'Quality' or 'Costs to develop'.
No, its been on market for 3 years and has only 9 AAA titles. It recived only 1 AAA game last year ( and that was a collection of 2 games from last gen and one from 2007). I can see wii having better lineup this year but it wont surpass GameCube
