Forums - Sony Discussion - Suggest some PS3 'Must Have' Games

As far as MUST HAVES, the short list is:
Uncharted 2
Valkyria Chronicles (if you're into SRPG's like me)

Aside from that, the exclusives I've played are good, but not must have. If you liked MGS1-3, MGS4 is a no-brainer (but still a little disappointing). You said you weren't interested, though.

I mostly agree with him except for one thing: I think I had a better "gaming" experience with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune that with Uncharted 2, though its graphics and multiplayer are really superb. To tell you why would mean a spoiler.

You better play them both, in order.

you can get MGS1 on PSN for cheap and MGS2 at gamestop for 10 bucks I believe (don't need MGS3 but it's nice to know some backstory on big boss since it gets brought up). It's kinda like watching LOTR: Return of the King without having watched the other movies really lol. You get to know Naomi's relationship to Snake. How Snake and Hal Emmerich met. You understand more why Snake suffers from rapid aging, who Raiden is, who Sonny (the little girl) is in relation to all of them. You also get to see Ocelot and Liquid Snake as their former selves (as you also get to realize why the hell they occupy one body now). You also get to understand why the hell the game is called Metal Gear to begin with by just playing MGS1. Basically MGS1 gives you a good idea of the Outer Heaven and Zanzibar conflicts so you don't need to play the NES games. So if you are truly a person that appreciates a very good story, you'll try those out and immediately after play MGS4. MGS4 doesn't really cater to total newcomers to the series, it is a true sequel.

I'm not buying a Ps2 just to play one game.-______-

your PS3 isn't backwards compatible with PS2 games? I got the 80gb MGS4 bundle so mine is. Meh, you can get a PS2 under 100$, and there are lots of great games for it. MGS2, MGS3, Valkyrie Profile 2, Wild Arms 3, Guilty Gear X and X2, SF3: Third Strike, DBZ budokai tenkaichi series, Grandia 2 , 3 and xtreme, Xenosaga 1,2,3,  DMC1,2 and 3 (3 being best in the whole series), FFX, Twisted Metal: Black (I think u can also get the online one, probably best in the series), Chaos Legion, Radiata Stories, Star Ocean 3, Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, Crimson Sea 2, Ar Tonelico 1 and 2, Ratchet and Clank series, Jak and Daxter series (Jak 3 was great), etc, etc. Damn I wish PS3 would have already pumped out so many great games like in PS2 era. Anyways, if you're on a budget then I can understand not wanting to spend 100$ to play just a "few" great games.

*must resist urge to troll*

I'm not buying a(nother) PS2

If I were you I would give MGS4 a try, you can get it for few bucks as a platinum collection (or it's american counterpart). I was very skeptical before playing MGS4, from the few video's I've seen, I didn't find it very appealing (never played any other game from the series before). Well now it's my most favourite game of all times, I have 3 different collector's editions and I've bought all the other games in the series, even PSP Go, to play Portable Ops and Peace Walker. I Love MGS! And you may too!

Other than that, Killzone 2, Uncharted 1 + 2, inFamous, Demon's Souls, Little Big Planet, God of War Collection, Valkyria Chronicles and Ratchet & Clank series are all great exclusive titles you don't want to miss.

MY HYPE LIST: 1) Gran Turismo 5; 2) Civilization V; 3) Starcraft II; 4) The Last Guardian; 5) Metal Gear Solid: Rising

If you haven't played any of the other MGS's then it really isn't worth it. Especially if you are really interested in stories like I am. LBP is a must :)

Here are some more games that I have really enjoyed

  • inFamous
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Dragon Age Origins(Unless you have a good PC)
  • Demon's Souls

I figured if you are "interested in stories" MGS4 would be a first pick as it has an amazing story and a beautiful ending to such an amazing series (yes I played it when it first came out on NES and so on.) Unless I misread.

I haven't played any of the originals, and I was horribly lost the entire game(even though I stopped playing) ?.?

If you do decide to get a PS2, then the best way to get into MGS is to get the essential collection.  You get a better and rarer version of MGS 2 (Substance), get MGS 3 Subsistence with a better camera (but not the second disk containing Metal Gear 1 and 2).  If you have a Wii, you might also consider playing through Twin Snakes instead of MGS 1.

Well... every even semi-worthwhile game is bound to mentioned in a thread like this. But what about the games that are horrible? Nobody mentions those. That's where I come in.
