really bad idea...
this game gets hard fast even with a controller.

Looks interesting, but im tired of tech demos. Let's wait and see a game built with Natal in mind from the get go.

RolStoppable said: Great music. But Geometry Wars on Natal is kinda like using voice recognition software instead of using a keyboard. It doesn't seem to be an improvement, but rather makes things more complicated than they currently are. This isn't the right game for Natal. |
Your a funny guy.
I dk, it seems kinda cool. Maybe once we see more demos ill be convinced of its accuracy.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
This game would be the worst idea for a natal project ever if the aim was to broaden the market. I'm sure Microsoft have other broad appeal games as well. If they don't then they are seriously screwed.

Because he's not holding a controller. That certainly isn't the game to get the viral marketing campaign into high gear, and it uses none of the features that are meant to make Natal the next gaming revolution. It is a good tech demo of how gesture based gaming can work in different gaming genres, but it doesn't necessarily show how gesture based gaming improves the gaming experience in different genres. |
This is not a gesture based game. It is using the absolute positioning of the hands for everything. Shooting is along the vector perpindicular to the vector intercepting both hands. Movement is controlled by moving both hands in the direction desired. This is basically just a mapping to two analog sticks and I would not consider analog sticks to be gesture based.
I think this is probably a test, like using Natal with Burnout Paradise.
If Natal offers an inferior interface for the title, which it does with Burnout and which I'd say it does here, then gimmick aside there's no real reason to use it.
True Natal titles should, if well developed, be better using Natal as the interface than a controller.
I'm sure MS will add Natal to certain titles as more of a gimmick or fun factor, and maybe that's the case here, but they (and by extension Sony too) will need games that are better with motion controls, not worse, if they are to see real success.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
He shoot south (down) only once in the entire video and it looks like an accident. 85% of the bullets go up, right or upper right. How should someone play a crazy hard game like that when even the developers of the tech can't play properly? He dies before the game even get challenging (it seems he scored less than 1000 points).
That is called tacked on motion controls. It never worked before and I don't think it will work now.

Is it just me or is he having a hard time aiming where he wants to shoot? This game looks gimicky with the Natal controls.

With the control scheme being used it is possible to shoot downwards, but only when you rotate one hand completely around the other. Yes, not a good control scheme for this game.
