Forums - Gaming Discussion - Final Fantasy XIII first (real) English review - RPG Land 7/10

They seem to use a scale where 7 is a good score, not an average one. You should keep that in mind.

Why does every review site implement their own system? What's the big idea?

Meh.

The most frustrating part, is all the good things this review has to say about the music and voice acting will be null and void after Squeenix gets done butchering the english localization.

Imagine this review, but with really annoying , immersion-breaking voice work.

Eh. XII showed that, when they put their minds to it, Squeenix does some of the best localizations in the business, if not the best.

 You could actually stand to listen to that? Seriously? I liked the game, and the gameplay a lot. Put alot of hours into it...... many of which I nixed the sound, because the vocals were so annoying.

these are the same guys that gave S04 a 9/10. They actually think we are gonna expect that game being better than a FF game nope i dont think so. Untrustworthy is untrustworthy

The problems with the dialogues can be fixed in localization, remember that what is corny for us is mega cool for japanese. The plot development is really a problem, but, any 3d FF had a great plot development anyway, don't remember ix, but VII,VIII, and XII were weak in this area. Hard fans of FF, i can argue on it.

VII-Great start, had pretty deep feeling when fighting a company to save the world and a great metaphor with the system we live, they had to fight with the company to save the planet. But, changing the focus of the quest from the greedy of Shin-Ra to the madness of Sephiroth really fucked it to me.

VIII-Silly plot, whitout depth and pretty strange way to show the villain. They just talked about Ultimecia in the ending of the first CD.

XII-No need to argue in this one, really.

X and X-2 are the only ones that had a plot that holded up from beginning til the ending.X-2 was great to show Spira after Sin, and a soft-spirit world, and gave the happy ending Yuna deserved.

And I loved all of them anyway, relplaying FF VII now. But, that isn't because I love than i can't see what they did wrong.

As a body it was probably the best voicework I've ever heard outside of an Obsidia/Black Isle Studios game, and compares favorably to several of those.

i don't remember a final fantasy game that got very good reviews.

FFVII =/= 10 and Crisis Core =/= 6 so i'll ignore.

Final Fantasy VIII may have had a silly plot, but it had a lot of depth, far more than you realize.  And Ultimecia had full control of Edea in the first two discs.  May have been a strange way, but Ultemecia wasn't the point, Seifer was.
