Forums - Sales - Attach Rates: Wii over PS3?

Just noticed that with the latest (12/19) sales figures, it looks like the attach rate for the Wii has surpassed the attach rate for the PS3 (6.49 to 6.46).  I think this is the first time that's happened.

I remember a time when one of the most often used attacks on the Wii was its attach rate compared with the HD twins.  Good to see that's not an issue anymore.

Wi sports isn't bunded in Japan. So its has a 0.85

Pack-ins also discourage additional purchases.  If Wii was sold without Wii Sports in the west, sales of other titles would've likely risen in response, plus Wii Sports would've sold some amount on it's own.  Now, we can't know exactly to what degree that'd happen, but discounting Wii Sports would fundamentally handicap Wii's attach ratio.

Wii sports selling almost 60 million may have something to do with it..

but its still good

all 3 have a very good software sales, doesn't matter either way, unless your doing PSP/PS2 numbers

On topic, wow nice to know. The wii software sems to be concentrated around a small subset of games. Guess all those "movie watchers" have killed ps3's attach ratio lol.

Except that 1 Wii bundle accounts for 55 million games, I would be surprised if all of X360 and PS3 bundles is more then 20 million

Yah, it's interesting to try to figure out the Wii Sports effect. I mean, I'm sure it bumps the attach rate up... but by how much? It's not like there are people out there who would've bought the Wii and *zero* games with it. (Right?)

I don't really care whether Wii or PS3 is on top, but what I like about this is that--to me, at least--it puts the final nail in the coffin to those arguments that the majority of Wii owners just bought the console for Wii Sports and wouldn't bother to pick up more games for it.

Seems that, on average, the Wii base buys just about as many games as does the PS3 base.

I don't know about you guys, but when I play my Wii I just swing the wiimote wildly at the weather channel. You don't need games if you IMAGINATION
