Forums - Gaming Discussion - xbox360 vs ps3 graphics comparison round 5 from Gamespot.

ps3 games this year had deeper colors, thats cause ps3 uses 1.3 and 360 uses hdmi 1.2

look at the difference http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hdmi#Versions

i looked at the first 3 games, and tbh, there are no major differences at all.

even in the same PC with very similar performance GPUs the games look a little different between the nvidia and ati card... it is nearly impossible games to look exactly the same using different hardware...

IMO the games dont seem better or worse in 90% of the times... just a little different...

Well said.  Gamespot says the 360 version has higher res textures?  I say the RSX is lighting that said texture differently.  Ultimately people should be looking at framerates now instead of how each console does things.  Unless it's a Dragon's Age difference, then that's odd, though I wouldn't doubt Dragon Age was made for older video cards which allowed them to bring it to the PS3 with better graphics, though not quite up there with the overall architecture to bring up the framerate.

As an owner of both systems I like these comparisons. I want the superior version of the games that I choose to buy. I also want to know if there are any bugs or other issues. Personally, I buy multiplats for the 360 and exclusives for the PS3. If I can confirm that both versions are pretty close and there aren't any other factors such as multiplayer I have no problems buy the PS3 version.

Some of the older PS3 ports are definitely inferior to their 360 counterpart. The PS3 version of Area 51 is probably one of the worst ports ever. For 99% of newer multiplatform games both versions should be almost identical. But, the PS3 version will most likely have worse AA and a few more hiccups than the 360 version. But, there are a few games out there where the PS3 version is superior.

Have to remember that up until recently, MS mandated consistent 720p & 2xAA for every game. Now that 360 developers are able to use some of the same tricks that Sony has been using for the PS3, I wonder if we'll see some noticeable jumps in graphics quality on the 360.

Amm I thought Halo 3 was at <720p? So unless it was up until 2007 recently they never mandated 720p and 2xAA. Unless you mean all games had to be scaled to 720p which they still do and do the same on PS3.

From this comparison, the 360 does do the shadows slightly better, but not much, and textures were either the same or slightly better on the 360 shots. However, the PS3's colors were much better and made the screenshot overall better looking.

Most of the PS3 games look better IMO (AC2, Batman AA, Dragons Age, RE5). Most of those 360 games looks like dull and grayed while the PS3 is more vibrant.

Actual graphics there's hardly any different they both look amazing but if the in-thing is to be more gray then i guess the 360 wins.

The reason the PS3 shots have a greater contrast range is simply because of the expanded colour range setting for HDMI being turned on. The Xbox 360 has the exact same option - only better as it has 3 settings instead of just "onoff". The Xbox 360 has standardintermediateexpanded.

The trouble here is that although you get a "juicer" picture with the PS3 set to on as the screenshots show, you're actually losing detail. Just look at Batman's cape for evidence of this, it is virtually just a black texture on the PS3 with the HDMI expanded colour option on.

Wheras if Gamespot set the HDMI colour range to "intermediate" on the Xbox 360 they could have achieved a happy medium.

...So there! ;)

Amm no to all of what you said.

You sure showed him....

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

Crazy AC2 they look the same, why don't we compare ms first party titles, to PS3 first party titles and see who the clear winner is !

Yea... totally going to notice all that when I'm playing through the game...

They're so close I think it comes down to either personal taste, or the graphics you're used to...

A music Professor used to always play his first year students different music recordings. When he first tried this experiment, his students generally preferred music on records over cd recordings. With time he noticed that students preference changed to the mp3s bitrate. It also turned out that students preferred the sound from compressed mp3s over uncompressed music files.

This lead to the idea that people generally prefer what they're familiar with.

Preference for graphics may come down to familiarity when the difference is small enough.

360 always takes these multiplats by default. It's kind of expected now
