There are a couple of users in here that need to get with the Program, JRPG's are evolving past there SNES/PS1 roots a Big complaint with the JRPG genre is that it doesn't evolve thus creating stale been there done that scenarios, RoF, FFXIII and VC are the beginning of the evolution of the JRPG genre and plus im sure on handhelds the traditional JRPG will thrive but on Consoles they got to evolve ... so you roll with it or get rolled over

You can evolve in a lot of ways, you can be modern and still have traditionals things. Dragon quest 8 on "PS2" is a good example of this. Also evolving doesnt mean to remove everything that has made the genre succesful.

I personally feel that a lot of RPGs are not evolving right now, its more like modified to be able to reach a wider audience

I actually enjoyed the demo, and I'm not a fan of Tri-Ace. I hated the last three games I've played from them. The battle system was pretty interesting and fresh, and I'm really digging the art-style and the setting. Just hope this end up being another case of Mirror's Edge for me where the demo was fun to play, but the full game felt bland after a while. I can see RoF's battle system getting dull and repetitive fairly quick.

And I agree with Xxain.

Icyedge...DQ is a Megaton Franchise... they can do anything they want with it and it will sell bombtastic numbers.... gimme a non FF/ DQ JRPG( they sell on name brand) that can get away with a traditional style set up...hell Lost Odessy and Blue Dragon created by the great Sakaguchi were both criticized for being too traditional, On Consoles JRPG's are gonna have to keep up to survive

environments look bland and the gameplay is repetitve.

I'd have to agree with Xxain AND mirson on this one, that is such a true quote to, roll with it or get rolled over. such perfect words, and great new JRPG examples.

Blue dragon and lost odyssey were not really good for a lot more reasons than being traditional.  Also theres a difference in wanting to keep up, which they can do easily selling to the hardcore JRPG audience, and trying to do more cash by opening up the genre to a wider audience. We will still have both types of RPGs in the future, that is sure. Ill play them all anyway since im a huge RPGs fan. It will even be first day purchase like all RPGs on all console for the past 15 years but with less pleasure.

Im basing my previous comments on the demo, which can be unrepresentative of the full game. I doesnt know what is the story and pacing, which will play half the part of the whole experience. So maybe, in the end, I will like this game very much but im a bit careful after playing this demo.

After the demo...I'm kinda back on the fence now x_x just didn't find it fun.

Same here! whats the problems with JRPG developers nowadays. Why do they want to change nearly all the rules at once. Im missing my good old traditional JRPGs. I hope theres at least a good story, it would compensate the awfully repetitive and RPG less gameplay.

It's all in their attempt to "appeal to  the West" aka because the 360 has a strong userbase in America, they want to capitalize on that.

What they need to realize is that they don't need to "appeal to the West" in order to...well, appeal to the West. Were any Final Fantasy games ever Westernized? Kingdom Hearts? Dragon Quest? Xenogears?

They used to only have to cater to Sony and Nintendo, which both have done extremely well in Japan in the past. But now, with the 360 only really having strong ground in America...but strong ground nonetheless, they're altering their games in order to accomodate

it was pretty cool but I had no idea what i was doing. Still can't wait for the game though, looks promising.
