Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3 sets a record for the highest hardware sales during Final Fantasy week

^ true ture.

AC already sold PS3s to the FF fans, i remember that very well.

Actually, adding ACC week could be interesting too.  I bet it did better than some of the others.

It's the highest week no matter the many excuses I have read in this thread.

Well, if we're not taking any context into account, the highest week is actually for DS when FFXII: Revenant Wings released (~285k).

fine, it's second if it's mean so much to you.

Doesn't mean anything to me.  The reason hardware sales were so high at FFXIIRW launch was due chiefly to timing (it was golden week) and the extremely high baseline popularity of the platform (DS Lite in early 2007).

In FFXIII's case, I'd say the game did push hardware directly, and likely moreso than any previous FF ever has (at launch).  But there are reasons for that (PS3 being a relatively unpopular platform, huge 100k shipment of "limited" bundles for collectors) and it wasn't the only hardware driver (holiday ramp up, slim/pricecut sustained momentum).  Context is key, I'll always favor a better understanding to a superficial one.  It's not about "excuses", it's about getting the full picture.

here we go:

Now how many PS3 did you predict for that week? For all the context, none of you expected the ps3 to sell that much or FFXIII to have any impact, infact, i remember people saying most FFXIII  fans bought their systems already.

Many of you downplayed how big that week would be, but now context is being used, give me a break.

Er, I've already said it did better than I expected (~200k) and that FFXIII's likely pushed hardware more than any previous entry?  I'm not really sure what you're arguing over?

that's the question i was asking you.

It did better than we all expected, it set records for the console, but you are the one downplaying it sales.

lol. What did I just say?  How is "it did better than I expected (~200k) and that FFXIII's likely pushed hardware more than any previous entry" by any stretch downplaying things?

edit: no reason to be inflammatory.

@psrock - putting something into context and downplaying something are two different things.

Fact is that about 50% of the 240k PS3s sold last week would have been sold FF XIII or not since we are in December so it is hard to just compare numbers directly

I am not used to PS3 selling over 100k in December, it has no history of such.

The PS3 still sold 240k no matter the reasons. Would the PS3 had sold 240k without FFXIII, which is the biggest selling week in the PS3 history, no. So why are we arguing over context.

Slim/drop changed the baseline.  It'd be a bigger shock if PS3 hadn't sold over 100k this week after the past few months.

And I like how context is suddenly a bad thing. lol.

Great numbers for PS3

Something to be happy about.

context is not a bad thing at all, but there was no need for it. It was used only to downplay how big the week was, and I take offense to that espacially when none of us expected it. We can say all we want about how, it's obvious the PS3 was going to sell 100k, but that's guessing,  I could use the anticipation af the game as the reason sales were so high in previous weeks. it goes both way.

@ioi

You are right, but my point is, so what? It's still holds the record. All the big games get Holiday releases now, does that negate their sales compared to other games. Does MWF2 record means less because it was release in November? Then why is it such a big deal for FFXIII?

Probably because FFXIII's being specifically compared to non-holiday releases only in this case.  MW2's records don't really apply then, as no one made a similar comparison.

And agin, no one's "negating" or "downplaying" or posting anything that you should "take offense to".   A better and fuller understanding isn't a bad thing, and literally doesn't take anything away from FFXIII's achievements.

accusing people of having an agenda when they have said nothing of the sort is just uncalled for.  I'm really getting sick of this happening on this site.  I've seen some really good arguments based on strong facts that are being shot down by simply shouting BIAS.
