Forums - Nintendo - Why doesn't Nintendo build up their new franchises?

I just hope Nintendo will have a plan for third party on the next gen.

They need to make their deals earlier.  At least console side, considering everyone eventually jumped on board DS anyway.  Wii would be in a much better spot today if games like Red Steel 2, Monster Hunter Tri, Tales of Graces, Samurai Warriors 3, etc, had come out in 2007/2008...

What about Kid Ikarus?

MY ZELDA COLLECTION

i kinda agree had they released those games during launch maybe they'd be closer to the other 2 consoles i think the wii is alot better then some ppl give it credit for

This is the most ridiculous claim I've heard in a long while.

Nintendo hasn't built up new franchises on the Wii?

Wii Sports
Wii Fit
Wii Music

Those are your 2-4 new franchises per generation.

Unless you are talking about core franchises. Then I'll agree with you. There haven't been many of those. Nintendo's main effort this console has been building up franchises for the expanded audience that didn't really have any.

You just gave me an interesting idea.

Let's see, total software sold on Wii, by Nintendo: 213.63 million (160 million without Wii Sports)

Total from new franchises: Roughly 130 million (a tad below 80 million without Wii Sports)

In other words: New franchises account for more than half of the revenue and more than half of the titles played on Wii. That might be a slight exaggeration, but it's pretty close.

Wowsers!

I was looking for something else rather intelligent to say but I couldn't think of anything.

This is invisible text!

I see 3 Nintendo franchises that could be big if Nintendo pushed them.

3. Animal Crossing/ Animal Crossing on the G.C sold about 2.9Million selling great for the console it was on. A.C.W.W sold about 11.1 Million also selling great. A.C.C.F sold 3.5 Million so far on the Wii. As I do think it will end up selling at least 5 Million it was still not as good as it should have been. With the Wii base A.C had a huge chance to become the next big thing(Nintendogs, Wii Fit) but failed. It could have sold 10 Million if it was changed enough for the core and promoted well for the calmer wii base. Instead it was only changed somewhat(Maybe) and it didn't sell to the new wii base.

2. Yoshi/ I honestly think that Yoshi is a very easy to get along with character. He is very loveable and charming to many Nintendo fans new and old. Yoshi Story sold 2.8 Million with little support behind it and was the last Yoshi game for a home console. Yoshi should now return after 10 years of being a no show on a Nintendo home console. Yoshi is the kind of character that kids and adults worldwide would love and with the new Wii base it could be a huge hit for Nintendo. I honestly think that a new console Yoshi adventure would outsell a DK64 sequel on Wii. I say bring back the green animal and lets have some fun!

1. Pikmin/ Pikmin sold about 1.6 MIllion and became the 10th best selling game on the G.C in Japan. Pikmin 2 was a huge upgrade and was loved by anyone who tried it. The sad thing was not many tried it. Pikmin 2 sold 1 Million and became the 11th best selling G.C game in Japan selling the same amount as the 1st one. It failed in America mainly due to stock problems. Pikmin could be the next unexpected hit with Pikmin3/Wii. The Wii controls are perfact for the franchise and Pikmin seems like it could be a bridge game that would sell to the classic gamers and the new found Wii base. Both Pikmin games got great reviews and the franchise has a lot of Potential. With Pikmin 3 Nintendo could have another hit franchise on their hands.

Nintendo will continue to do outsourced new Ip that generally doesnt do very well( endless ocean broke through, its possible for others to do so too.)

They bought monolith soft sob that they had a team to develop new franchises, but clearly this sint going so well. hopfully project sora is having better luck.

The way I see it, the only new IP that will get major backing are those done by sora, Retro studios or EAD. so until more new IP is announced from those guy, we wont see the next big franchise

How is Metroid dying?
The last full Metroid was Metroid Prime 3 and it sold 1.55m. It sold more than MP2 and Super Metroid, but less than Metroid and MP1. We also have Metroid: Other M coming up.

Yeah metroid has never been overly successful saleswise (1-2 million per game best case scenario)...I think the kids who weren't around back in the day just assume it was once as big as Mario or sumfin just cos of it's legendary status...outside of forums I don't know too many people in the real world who are even familiar with it compared to other franchises!

Nintendo this gen is pretty much putting out good efforts on all of its major series, new and old. From Mario and Zelda to Metroid and Wario to Kirby and Mario Kart Wii to Smash Bros and Pokemon to Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem to Punch Out and Excitebike. Nearly all of Nintendos major franchises and even many of Nintendos smaller and forgotten series have been hit upon this gen. And of course, their whole new 'Wii' series of games. If anything, Nintendo has done MORE this gen than past gens.

The only ones which haven't been hit upon yet really are Star Fox, F-Zero, Pikmin and Pilotwings. But with various rumors and even some hints from heads at Nintendo, its pretty evident that these games are also being worked on in Nintendo. Even with these games not getting a release yet, its pretty evident why these games haven't seen a release immediately. They have never been Nintendos major sellers. Nintendo came out strong early on in its first two years focusing on its heavy hitting series. And it was a winning strategy. Perhaps now in the Wiis mid to late life cycle we will see some of these medium to light selling series such as Pikmin or F-Zero. Unlike during the GameCube era where they led the consoles development and, consequently, the console faltered.

Six upcoming games you should look into:
