Forums - Gaming - Why People Are Not Liking FFXIII

Well I loved FFX so that bit is reassuring.

@DaBuddahN
I wonder if leading development on PS3 had any negative impact on side quests and lack of towns to visit etc.

I'm not liking the looks of this.

Not many towns? shopping done at save points? No leveling up? (I always thought this was a bad idea). I just hope that I'll be able to enjoy the game.

this sounds like some of the threads that got started when DQIX launched.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

This worries me a bit. I LOVE side quests. Like in VII, I enjoyed fighting Ruby and Emerald weapon... and Getting all the stuff, raising my Chocobo, obtaining Knights of Round, etc. This game better be jam-packed with side quests! I wonder if porting this to the 360 had any negative impact on side quests and lack of towns to visit etc.

why would it?  thats just trying to cause a row.

I'm not trying to cause anything. If I wanted to cause a row, I would make a rol-esque thread. It was a thought because since FF13 is on multiple DVD's on the 360, backtracking to locations on the first DVD is not viable (to my knowledge) unless you have some install option. Where as on the PS3, they didn't even fill up one dual layered bluray, they still had over 10 gigs of space to put in random side quests and bosses. I love Final Fantasy, and I love side questing and killing impossible to beat bosses, so this worries me. Also, it's not like if what I said were true, Square-Enix would admit it. It's like a sales man walking to your door and telling you the product he is selling you is inferior then originally planned. That would be a turn off.

JRPGs should not have towns just for the sake of having towns.  The less towns there are, the better the towns that are actually there are.

people were claiming that because it was getting bad reviews that it was going to sell poorly, and after 1st week sales it would be completely dead and everyone would buy it used because it was so bad.

Turns out it sold another ~2m since then.

 From what I've read there is plenty of side quests, just the first 20 hours or so are very linear and they only really open up to you after you get to a certain point in the game. Sounds exactly like FFX tbh, which I thought worked pretty well. I'd assume there might be alot of secret quests or whatever too that people miss on the first playthrough or find when they backtrack.

 But yeah, I think I said it somewhere on here, I really hope FFXIII has some epic challenges in side quests just like Ruby and Emerald or the boss fight things through that mystery gate thing in FFX. Further to this I hope I have to do them all to get the platinum, otherwise I might be tempted not to bother :P.

 The criticisms all seem very odd though, most of them you can apply to any previous FF game or a part of RPGs in general.

Yay!
FFXIII will be awesome!
