I translated some of the reviews on google. Its seems alot of them have a problem with the long cutscenes.

That ruined MGS4 for me, although I had no real idea what the hell was happening during MGS4 due to not playing the PS2 versions.

If FFXIII has long cut scenes though, God I pray it has a more engaging story then FFXII, otherwise it could turn into a snorefest.

I'm more really curious to know what all the 'other' stuff FFXIII has to offer, the crazy challenges, like Ruby and Emerald weapon in FFVII. Does anyone know if FFXIII has anything of this sort? And if I'll need to do it to get the platinum :P.

"killing a wandering Bahamut" is a trophy so maybe theyre like the weapons. Plus theres that huge dinosaur looking creature in vids.

The trophey list didn't throw up too much in the way of epic quests/challenges, I was semi disappointed.

There are 16 secret trophies but I kind of assumed they're just for going through the story. I think it has a similiar bounty hunter quest type thing like FFXII though? Or did I imagine that.

i think youre right. Where you can traverse between the two planets for "jobs" i believe. Yeah, but some of the story related quests or battles could be epic.

But really people, this is no big deal. EVERY popular game in jp will have ratings similar to this during the beginning. I'm sure within the next few months, FFXIII will manage a 4/5 star.

Also, I happen to love long cutscenes (since I pretty much play jrpgs for the story anyways) so this is perfect for me.

The main complaint of the first 2 star review posted was the level/map design. I mean, that seems like a silly thing to harp to give a game 4/10.

Thanks Dsister. I tried using Google and babel translator, but the translations are kind of bad.

@stever, yeah I heard a few complaining about it being linear. This map (courtesy of Sankaku) is supposedly the first six hours of the game, and glimpses of later maps in the hint book seem to indicate this linearity persists to the very end. Very disappointing if true.

I'm not worried about it. Final Fantasy games are very divisive among Gamers, and people tend to grade Final Fantasy on it's own curve. FFXII is one of my favorites, and also among the most hated final fantasy games, same with VIII. They have tons of 1,2, and 3 star reviews on Amazon. Which a 1 star review for the game is ridiculous from an objective standpoint, but like I said people grade on a big final fantasy curve, and also exaggerate. A "bad" final fantasy is still of a higher calibur than most other "good" RPGs. I'm not going to be too concerned with some japanese Amazon reviews.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

In all honesty, the last FF game that I truly enjoyed came out in 2001. We'll see how the new one is received, soon enough.

So in terms of recent main FF games, you didn't like FF XII, as FF XI doesn't count

Exactly. A 'bad' Final Fantasy is still better than nearly every other RPG.

quoted for truth, i was disappointed from FFXII as a Final Fantasy, but not as an RPG itself, it was just a pretty 08/15 storyline. It started with 'OMFGDIDYOUSEETHAT!!???1', and ended with.. 'meh' (imo).

but i'll give XII another try after finishing Dragon Age to a 100%.

maybe i was just disappointed because my expectations were sky high.
