What's normal for the Crystal Chronicles franchise? Seriously? From action RPG to Sim City to action/adventure to tower defense.

Maybe they should keep doing what they're doing: Experiment with new ideas in the Crystal Chronicles franchise while they phone in more sequels in the main Final Fantasy franchise.

I like that idea.  It gives them a chance to hit the jackpot.

I certainly don't mind if they try new ideas.  I didn't like the GC game.

Kawazu mentioned dropping the FF branding too, and that they considered it for Crystal Bearers. Honestly, I think it might be okay of Crystal Chronicles was built up into it's own series, like the Seiken Densetsu / Mana games (which also started as a FF spinoff).

Nice to hear that a REAL FFCC2 is still in the cards too. They should call it that too "Crystal Chronicles II".

I'd definitely be down with that. I loved My Life as a King (my second most played Wii game), and I'm loving My Life as a Darklord (thanks ckgc17!) To me, they struck gold twice, which is rare for Squeenix nowadays.

Well seems like the next game on the series'll be more like the first gamecube game.

S: What do you think is the next step for the Crystal Chronicles series? Will it go back to its multiplayer roots or a deeper single player storyline?

AK: The Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles multiplayer games for GameCube and DS has many fans, so we would like to continue creating new entries in that direction. On the other hand, the open field game system for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers has many possibilities for further evolution, so I would like to spend some more time with it as well. But there’s only one of me, so I’m not sure which project I will be able to take on next.

So its either one or the other.I mean, going back to gc style wasnt working saleswise really anymore. The latest usual CC games were not selling really properly. At least CB is to be released in US . I dont think square is aiming to return to  a formula that is not making them money anymore.

If you add the Wii and DS versions of Echoes of Time, each CC game has passed the half mil mark.  WiiWare numbers are unknown.  I'm pretty sure Square Enix is making money off the franchise or they would've stopped making them along time ago.

I'd love to see a Wii-DS Crystal Bearers in the style of the original. Perhaps with online, though that's not too important to me personally.

I really loved the DS versions when playing multiplayer, but unfortunately the demands are too high to get to play that often. With GC you needed all the cables in addition to the Gameboys, and with the DS versions you needed multiple copies of the game!

With a Wii version, all you would need would be a Wii, a disc copy, and a DS per player (possibly allowing Wii remotes for one or more players, depending on the game design, but there are millions of DS owners out there...). And if they have online, Wii Speak support would be crucial.

The Wii version would probably be able to handle AI much better than the DS versions too.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

yes, and still is lower sales then the previous CC iterations, not to mention CB didnt have a portable counterpart to speak of. I think SE is making money ,but is making LESS money than in the Cube era. And  i think that is in their interest to revitalize the series to sell back to original levels, otherwise, it will make less and less money until is no profitable anymore. You take those desicions before that happens.

well the reason it FF:CC sold better on gamecube is because final fantasy was in its prime and it was the return of final fantasy to nintendo consoles. People thought FF:CC was gonna be something great, i know because i bought FF:CC out of pure hype. I regretted buying it and since then i have stayed away from the FF:CC brand. Crystal Bearers isn't helping things, it's another flawed game that is dilluting the FF:CC brandt, they should really just start over with a new name.

While I don't disagree that most CC games suck, I have to say that the day "My Life as a..." games are actually pretty entertaining, IF you like the genres.

yeah it is pretty fun actually.  I do own both FF:CC games on wiiware, even got DLC on the first one.  These games are actually perfect examples of good concepts for wiiware games.  Don't think i can say the same thing about the retail FF:CC games though.
