I'm just not sure if I want this to be debate-style or not. We could definitely have a debate section cordoned off, I suppose....

well, the reason I think it would work best is because it is hard to hold a reasonable conversation with 4-5 people over the phone without everyone constantly jumping all over each other. Even if everyone is trying to be polite, you'll have a whole lot of instances you'll have to edit out where people start talking at the same exact time. Now, everyone in the same room is a little easier to manage, as you can see when someone is going to talk (or itching to talk) so not everyone will start talking at the same time.
debate style is a little more controlled in the flow of who speaks when, of course there will be the occasional outburst where someone decides they want to interject, which makes things interesting.

I'm like this to. I don't have the time of day to listen to podcasts, but my ego wouldn't let me pass up an opportunity to pontificate before an audience a few thousand strong.

This is very true. The idea I initially had was that everyone would have topics about which they'd speak first (they'd each have a few minuts to talk about whatever they want), then we could get a conversation going. I'll consider this debate format, but it might be something I try to implement after the first podcast or two, so I can get a feel for how it's going to go.

You could do video skype to add a visual element to it (not to the podcast itself, merely the recording of it), so that it can be a more manageable conversation.

How would we do the prodcast. Do I need some special thing or somthing?
If you guys are going to do a debate thing, but you want to let it be wild and loud, keep it on a short timer, those things can drag on.
Best to avoid those types of loud people though, they'll try to dominate the entire conversation and it'll be boring.
You guys should have:
News segment and short commentaries in between them
1 Dedicated topic (Halo Reach? Heavy Rain? Game industry falling? Wii? Etc)
Sales talk
Debate/Game/Gimmick
End
Why do we have to have debates anyways? How about we just discuss what we like and don't like about games (and other topics of the sort), without trying to include "The Xbox Clan" or "The Nintendo Clan?" I think gaming is a great passion. There are plenty of subjects to talk about and you don't need to side with any company. There's not just the console war going on... and like I always say, there's only a war if you want to see a war.
Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

This is kind of close to my feelinig on the matter. Like I said, though: work in progress.

Would a 'free topic' have a good risk of becoming boring if someone picks a personal fetish like how great some game was 7 years ago? I'd thought it would make more people interested more often if the topics were all current affairs and latest games released/announced with info/cancelled and so forth. |
I'm thinkning it could be like Radio Free Nintendo does: the first section is devoted to "What's New", where we have commentators maybe talking about what's new for their system of choice, or even just about the games they've been playing. Should have a very Current Events kind of vibe.
Retrospectives would not be kosher for What's New, I should not think.
