Forums - Sales - Why did Square Enix stick with Sony?

I wouldn't even count a virtual colouring book as a game but that's just me. I don't understand how you can be so optimistic about SE and the Wii. I honestly can't understand it, when all signs point the opposite direction you tell yourself that tons of unannounced games are on its way, when we are already 3 years into the gen and there's just 1 coming at the end of the gen,

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Yet we know how FFCC:CB ended, bombing and after years of having disappeared, was it worth the wait for SE?

Plus SE is surely not wanting to support the market leader as one, otherwise they would have at least some games announced for it, or tried to make an appealing new IP. But if its colouring books what you want, or small anime liscenced games, be my guest. I know that 99% of SE fans don't want that kind of crap. Like when I said Soul Eater was gonna endup selling les than 15k LT, you and others told me it was gonna do that in just 1 day and then some more.

SE has no faith in the Wii. I still can't understand how DQX is getting released on it. I know there was some kind of deal, due to the timing of the announcement and the fact that Iwata was there, but people will tell me I'm crazy and deluded, and I went over this a thousand times already so I won't continue discussing because I know that some people post with their hearts rather than their heads.

Well, it's getting DQX.  And by getting DQX, it's going to get some DQ lead in games, that's just how the franchise works.  It happened on PS1, PS2 and DS, it'll happen on Wii.  If you think differently, you don't really understand DQ.

I'm not really expecting much else to be honest, I could see a small-ish outsourced game here or there (which outside FFXIII/XIV is all the HD systems have lined up too... low tier games like Nier or FM Evolved).  SaGa would fit the bill, and SE already made a big deal about bringing Romancing SaGa 1-3 to VC recently. Kingdom Hearts seems like a natural fit though, and the recent handheld entries have me thinking we'll see the IP spread on to every viable platform possible, which makes sense with a Disney license.  I think we'll keep seeing WiiWare games too, SE's been really strong on the service.

Having "just" DQX announced doesn't mean that's all that's left.  You think they're done with DS after DQVI and Lufia?  I mean, they haven't announced anything else...

@jarrod: Yeah, the DS is pretty much done. I think a new handheld from Nintendo will be released next year or at least announced and released the year after. Not even Nintendo is supporting the DS anymore in Japan. Nintendo themselves haven't announced anything for the DS save for Golden Sun and a couple of DSiWare titles. Also with this many revisions already, it looks like the next hanheld is around the corner. There are a few more reasons, but I don't think they are worth posting here, if you want I could PM you.

To OP: Sony owns most Japanese devs mind body and soul because most of them haven't completely cracked the western market like Capcom and Nintendo. The only reason the 360 got FFXIII is because SE was unsure of sales WW exclusively for the PS3. They wanted to maximize profits. Japanese devs also know that most Japanese consumers will not buy their Japanese for an American made system.

I said Soul Eater would sell more? It's an anime based game that released before the anime IIRC lolz. I don't remember saying that though.

I'm sure the fact that DQ X is on the Wii proves that SE does, in fact, have faith in the Wii. Deal or not they could have declined.

SE doesnt decline those deals. They've accepted deals from MS, so they won't decline this one.

Time will prove either me or you wrong, but when the moment comes I expect each one of us to man up and accept how wrong we were, if we end up wrong.

FFXIII is not any game either going by those parameters you are setting. FF is way bigger than DQ worldwide.

Well according to Square Enix, Nintendo Choice of hardware wasn't right for them, and apparently the Nintendo cartridge didn't have enough storage for future FF Games.

Square asked Nintendo to change its cartridge to something else but Nintendo didn't really support Square and thats when Sony came in, Get it? lol

I as just stating that your sentence was incorrect. and that staying on one company's system is not a good idea for 3rd parties.
Also changing platforms can be good if done right

Yeah i understand where your coming from, Game development cost are increasing now a days especially with a huge budget game like FF13 so staying on one platform is the wrong move in which they made the correct business decision to bring it to the Xbox 360.

But i was stating my opinions, And i think that Sony should have Intervened and tryed for a Time Exclusive deal with SE which would have increase their hardware sales because a lot of people is Demanding for FF13. People who still owns a PS2 and is a fan of FF Series would no doubtly purchase a PS3 for FF13 like i did like it was Derived demand lol.

For Sony it would of been a good move but unfortunately they didn't try to pursue that road =S but yeah overall you are correct

And after Agito and 3rd Birthday, they're done with PSP?  After FFXIV, Nier and Gaijun Front Mission, they're done with PS360?

Nintendo also just announced Last Window for DS btw.
