Forums - Sales Discussion - Take Two explains poor Grand Theft Auto IV DLC and retail sales

I knew they wouldn't make there money back from the DLC.

They sold very well, but knowing that it probably cost a lot to develop them, these sales definitely weren't enough to make profit
. Hopefully they don't make this mistake again OR release it on both the PS3 and 360.

Also, it took way too long to develop the Episodic Content, I didn't buy it because of the long wait and I stopped caring.

looooool

Do some research first.

illmaticv3 do some research before posting

microsoft payed take two 50 mil for the dlc so even if it was a full game it would still profit before it was sold. both dlcs size combined is about 3.4 gig so its development cost would be what i guess about 1-6mil. so they have made 44 mil even before they sell the dlc and include 1-2mil for tlad alone and it would be over 50 mil pure profit add dowloads of tbogt and lcs and you could see both dlc making a total of 50-100 mil i fail to see how making 50 mil isn't making money.

MS gave them $50m to make the DLCs. GTA IV cost $100m to make. These costs include the following:

Creating a new graphics engine; licensing the physics engine; creating the whole city, cars and citizens; programming gameplay mechanics etc.

They can just copy & paste them and make a new main character and some new missions with a nice short story and viola. You have the first GTA DLC.

The XBL sales of the first DLC alone made enough money to break even for both DLCs.

Maybe I worded my post wrong. I'm sure the process isn't as easy as you make it to be, especially since it took so long for them to be released. DEFINITELY not THAT easy. I fully understand what you're saying though, but time is money and it took a long time.

What I was saying about sales though is that, since it took so long to develop, hype died down, which caused sales not to be up to there expectations. This in turn led to them not making the profit they expected to make.

Edit: I'm sure they made a good sum of money though, my first post actually didn't make much sense after I re-read it, please ignore it.

Poor sales indeed.. well not sales. But the attachrate for a GTA4 DLC. But as someone put it. Next time do a good game, and the DLC will do well. No one wants more of a game that was bad to begin with.

You forget that Rockstar North had other projects when they make the GTA DLCs (Chinatown Wars and The Agent). The team involved in the DLCs was much smaller, that's why the dev time was longer. But yes I made the process look easy on purpose

Last sentence is true.

It's take 2. Apparently they can't make a profit on games that sell less than 6 mil copies.

If you haven't played them yet, you should. Both episodes by and of themselves are much more compelling experiences than the Niko Bellic version, if only by story alone.
