PS2 had 4 Tales over 500k, one of them over 760k, another around 685k (if you include best/director's cut stuff).  The PS1 games did really well also.  It is hardly a niche series.

That was back then, nowdays it is different.

It really is a niche series.

I wouldn't worry, it's definitely coming over.

For God's sake, stop this  sh** people.... this discussion isn't going anywhere and you all know it

Why don't you make like a tree and get out of here?

Well the last game to do 500k+ in a single release was December of 2005. The best version was able to sell another 130k, with 80k of those in 2008.  Destiny from November 2006 was able to do 500k+ with the Director's cut.  This was after the first DS game sold around 200k.  There doesn't seem to be much series decline (besides the incredible numbers done by Destiny/2).  The GBA games actually did worse than the DS/PSP ones, so there isn't really any decline there.  The 360 obviously isn't going to sell 500k, so that pretty much leaves the Wii and the PS3.  There has certainly been some mismanagement of this series.  Namely that they haven't been able to handle the transition to portables as well as some other games.  I'd still say it has the ability to sell 500k.

Anyways, my main point is that calling it niche is just silly.  That would be like calling left 4 dead niche in the west.

Also... What the HELL caused the Wii raise?

Japan preview had it at 100-110 didn't it? What did the Source miss?

Tales of Graces bundle... at least I hope so, that would also explain the relatively low sales for the game.

Somebody needs to be working in the Pre-order sharts for this week,  just saying

Yow. Outside MW2 and NSMB/Pokepark 2nd weeks, it's really disappointing.

Graces has to be a gut check for Namco, the retail blogs are buzzing about it's close proximity to FFXIII dooming it. Naruto did bad as well, WE/Bleach/everything else basically bombed and the 2nd weeks for Gundam Vs, PSP2 and SM3 are terrible. Seems like Nintendo and SE are the only ones making out well this holiday.

I certainly understand the user base argument, however, I am trying to think about the cost(s) of developing a game for the PS3 and then porting to the Wii. From what we've seen, it takes a considerable re-write to port a game from the PS3 to the Wii, whereas going from the PS3 to the 360 is much more cost-effective.

Since that is the case, wouldn't it make more sense to spend less money on porting, and see close to similar results? Vesperia on 360 sold >200,000 units in Japan, which was within 5% of ToS:DONTW. Had Vesperia came out first, it may have even outsold DOTNW.

Of course, this may be speculative. We don't know how multi-plat JRPGs do in Japan quite yet. If the X360/PS3 multi-plats are any indicaiton, then they do very well (as we've seen PS3/X360 multis do very well on all formats).

Do it like Capcom!

Sengoku BASARA is a Wii game that is being up-ported to the PS3.

Less costs, better results!! (have to wait and see about that)

Hmm, I just hope that works out for them. If it is a Wii -> PS3 port, I doubt the PS3 userbase will take kindly a Wii port with only online multiplayer added on.
