Forums - Gaming - How well do you expect the next Killzone and Resistance games to sell?

If Resistance 3 steps up, it could potentially manage 3 million. If they continue down this horrible derivative path, 2 million if it's lucky.

Killzone 2 had two main problems: It launched in February, and there was bad word of mouth. If they (and it pains me to say this) make the game easier to learn, and launch it in the holiday season, 3 million+ with ease. Otherwise, similar numbers to KZ2.

hmmmmm interesting & innovative discussion

I feel:

Killzone 3 will perform slightly better than Killzone 2 IF SONY is able to put uncharted 2 type hype behind it

With regards to Resistance 3, I think the franchise is kind of not as relevant anymore as it was say 1 or 2 years ago, bigger & better games have come out.

Neither will do as well as the 13th Fantasy Epic

Innovative discussion ...

oh sorry I forgot only nintendo is innovative lol

If it carries on down the same path as res2... res3 wont get anywhere near 2 million.  Even at 1.7m res2 has got way more than it deserved.

Resistance 2 should limp to 2 million, and if Resistance 2 didn't alienate those people, R3 would have to be a special kind of terrible to do so.

I'm sure quite a few people who enjoyed the first and not the second would pick R3 up...if it's good.

Killzone 3 should be able to outsell Killzone 2. They have much more time to polish the gameplay up instead of focusing on the engine, since all it needs now is a few code treatments (hell, KZ2 didn't even fully use the PS3's tools like Uncharted 2 did). I hope they don't change the controls or shooting mechanics...I think all that's needed is custom controls and 60 frames per second (if possible), and the people who complained should be more happy.

Resistance 3 needs a drastic change. The first game helped develop an identity for the series, but with 2, it just became generic, honestly...one thing is for sure: Insomniac need time with this game.

Depends. Resistance is in a sticky place I think. They changed the game too much and got a lot of grumbling, but now they can't be sure going back to the old model is the right choice either. I think it will sell find but they need to:

1 - sort out the SP/gameplay for consistency

2 - improve the MP - more doesn't automatically mean better

3 - leverage the coop which was great and pretty much universally praised.

If they pull it off it'll sell more than R2 but less than R1 unless bundled, which it won't be.  If not they could sell less than R2.

KZ3 I think will sell fine, although they need to improve the SP a bit in line with general complaints, not go overboard with the heavy feel (I like it and I don't want everything to be a CoD floating game but it must remain fun) and further polish the MP with additional elements.

I would expect a 'more of the same' KZ3 to sell maybe 5% to 10% more.  If they add enough new stuff and get both a good SP and more great MP in place then I could see more like 20% increase on KZ2.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Judging from comments on these boards, a considerable portion of those who had given a try to either of R2/KZ2 were left dissapointed so I can't help but think that those sequels will shrink in sales. That's the most possible scenario and, of course, only the future will (dis)prove it.

Additionally and unfortunately for Resistance, it's likely to get appeared outdated and outclassed by arguably better exclusive (KZ2). So it might see pretty huge drop actually.

One person can change these sales around...Kevin Butler. Use him well Sony.

A metacritic of 87, a generous coop campaign and now the great value platinum price of £20, and you have the cheek to say it sold "way more than it deserved".

Unreal.

The main problem with Killzone 2 was not the gameplay, no, it's a huge improvement over the first game. The main complaints people have are the insufficient amount of classes, perks, and rank benefits, not to mention more weapons wouldn't hurt, and the second main problem being the poor story pacing of the SP campaign. The first one had great story pacing and level variety, and introduced some new ideas, but was hampered by poor mechanics and glitches.

Another bonus to improve from KZ2: It could also have more MP mode variety and vehicle maps.

So my overall point is: KZ2 is a solid game and on the right track, but is just unpolished. Resistance 2 went a completely new direction from the first game, and became generic. So basically, for 3 to improve, it would have to take another approach.
