Forums - Nintendo - *Pikmin 3 VS. Metroid Other M*

i feel like there are so many games with little/no info from Nintendo all of a sudden... Zelda Wii mostly, but pikmin 3, SMG2, Metroid other M.

They need to give some info or I'll implode of curiosity eventually >_<

Wait...what?  Nintendo has been giving out more rumors and tidbits about their games in the last 3-4 months than practically all of the last 20 years combined.  If anything, this is a whole new awakening of information....

You must not have been around for the silent days of the N64/GC.  Where Nintendo wouldn't even give us a glimpse of a project unless it was 6 months away from completion.  And even then, we only got 1 video and a little dance from Miyamoto at E3 a year and it was called 'news'.

I want both games. I would also really like it if NPC Pikmin 2 came out in the US.

I would as well.  Pikmin 2 is one of the most expensive GC games to buy used and one of the few GC games I want that I don't own.  It would be one of the few 'refits' I'd actually buy if they put it on Wii.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

Wait, NPC Pikmin 2 isn't out in the US yet? Wow, it's not often that us Europeans get a Nintendo game before America...

It is still listed as TBA.  Chances are it is never coming.

That's pretty strange, seeing how NPC Pikmin 1 sold far better in the US than in Europe, yet Europe got 2 and the US didn't.

Pikmin 3 is not coming this generation. I'll believe it will when I see it.

Miyamoto has already made some kind of vague statememt to the effect of 'I am looking forward to the next Nintendo system having HD graphics.  I think certain games will really benefit from it such as Pikmin.'

He cited Pikmin specifically, which makes me at least think Nintendo isn't working on one at the moment or is only in the 'alpha' stage of development.  And possibly going to make it a launch game for their next system.

Yeah indeed. That was some vague statement years ago that got a lot of people all excited. Nothing whatsoever has been mentioned about the game ever since. Heck, we know far more about Zelda Wii than Pikmin 3. Imo, too, if they are even working on the title at all, it's only with a small team doing some tests and whatnot. Maybe for their next system, yeah, but I don't see it coming out anytime soon. I just don't get why people get all hyped up over literally nothing.

Actually, the E3 before last one (E3 2008), Miyamoto said they're working on Pikmin.

Then when asked about it during E3 2009 he said work is still underway, but with a relatively small team so they don't have anything to show yet.

Not saying that means it will be out this gen (though I personally think it will), I'm just saying that your information is incorect.

That is why you see so many people complaining about NOA's localization policies.

Now that you mention it, yeah I do remember that statement from E3 2009 too! You're right.

... But @ E3 2008, he was asked the question out of the blue by some journalist, and to me, from his answer it seemed like he just told the guy they were working on the game to get out of it. No more info was given. If true, they had started work on the game a while before E3 2008, supposedly. Then a year later, @ this year's E3, the same, "yeah we're working on it". Nothing else. Now, it's almost 2010, and still no new info. Not a single screen, no artwork, no details, nothing.

Of course, I could be wrong, but honestly, It's been nearly 6 years since Pikmin 2 released, and the only thing anyone's ever got out of Miyamoto was some vague off-hand statement that they were supposedly working on the game...

We'll just have to wait and see, I'm just saying I'm not holding my breath and am not getting my hopes up for Pikmin 3. If it does release this gen I'll be pleasantly surprised. But I do think some people are setting themselves up for disappointment.

Personally I can say that Pikmin is probably the Nintendo franchise I care the least about, or atleast one of them, so I'm fine either way. Will I buy Pikmin 3 for Wii? Probably. Will I hype it? Probably not. Will I hype it before we know anything about it? No chance in hell.

I don't really care personally if it comes this gen or next, but I think it'll come this gen. Even though Miyamoto did reply it to someone who just asked him out of the blue, he wouldn't mention it unless there was something to mention ... Even if it was way too early to be talking about it, probably.

If only we could get the Pikmin Trilogy when the third one comes out, just like Metroid Prime Trilogy.

when is pikmin 2 new play coming to america anyways??

Pikmin 2 came out 5 years ago on the GameCube. Go play that.

I think that's part of the problem. We've had plenty of Metroid, but very little of Pikmin.

The sales do support his theory. Metroid and Pikmin have been averaging around the same sales range now. This means (if we look at only these two games) the opprotunity cost of doing one is almost the same as doing the other. However, we've gotten more Metroid then we have gotten Pikmin in the last 10 years. Because of diminishing marginal utility, people will get bored of Metroid, but will crave other games like Pikmin. So, despite the cost of the forgone option is the same for both, it would be better to make Pikmin as consumers have comsumed less Pikmin and would have a higher utility for it.

Need I remind everyone that there was NO Metroid for 8 years. EIGHT long years.
