Forums - Gaming - Is it financially worthwile to use hollywood starts as VAs in games?

So I was watching a new vid for ME2 on GT and noticed they have done this. Does this help the game's sales in anyway if Martin Sheen is VA for "Illusive Man"? To me, it seems like just extra expenses when you can simply use no-names to voice characters for a lot cheaper. I mean, didnt GTA4 already prove that VAs dont really matter?

starts?

I dunno, there is a trend to use Hollywood actors, but personally I would settle for some H. Jon Benjamin and other tv guys.

It's not a first.

Hayden Panettiere (who is gorgeous by the way), voiced Kairi in KH2 along with other celebs, whom I can't remember because I don't care for them.

I'd say it's worth it if the trend exists. If your budget allows you to hire these actors, then do.

Typo. I meant to say "stars" but cant edit the title. Perhaps a mod could do it. I too would think its preferrable to use no-name guys. Did anyone care that Keiffer Sutherland was the narrator on COD:WAW? It just seems like extra budget costs then companies complain later lol.

No because actor != voice actor, honestly find someone like Christopher Sabat or one of the many other cartoon/anime voice actors like Mark Hamill who did an amazing job with the Joker in Batman AA, as well as the rest of the cast which were original voice actors from the 90s cartoon.

Its one talent to express feelings in person and its totally different to express feelings in your voice alone, to have great VA you must have someone that can express feelings with their voice alone.

I think having a Hollywood star as a VA can bring some hype to the game as well. How many Sci-Fi fans got a small orgasm when they heard who the ME2 cast had on board?

And if they're providing nice talent for their characters, then that extra hype might be worth it. I guess...

I totally loved Patrick Stewart as the Emperor and Sean Bean as Martin in Oblivion, but honestly it's seldom worth it to hire pricey Hollywood actors.

The money is better spent elsewhere. 'Normal' voice actors do their job very well mostly.
