Global Warming... though not the kind your thinking.

Think if the current global warming is from a natural trend.

We'd have no defense except wait for the cycle to bear out. People may survive... but it'd be hard... much harder then say living through a nuclear winter for example.

Wow you can read my mind Kasz, I'm not going to lie, I'm impressed.

Yeah, the naturally changing temperatures of the Earth have often been a cause for concern. Humans have survived through several cycles but what makes things more difficult now is that we are civilised, we've built cities and roads. Whereas before we could just migrate further inland or outland, now we are pretty much stuck in certain locations. It could spell disaster for shallow countries like Holland.

Anyway, In Britain man made global warming has been put into the perspective of how I see it over the past couple of weeks due to leaked e-mails that were about covering up certain information, which I'm happy about.

The e-mails were covering up the fact that global warming is not as bad as it is made out to be. This is my view. Man made global warming is made out by the media and politicians to be an extremely serious threat because it benefits them, the actual truth is that this is not the case. The public are spoon fed the worst case scenario all the time as it benefits the ones who have control over how it gets to the public.

I accept man made global warming is happening, but I don't think it would be anywhere near as bad as people think, not by a long shot. It certainly wont wipe out mankind.

Well, me, Squirrel, Sqrl and others knew this all along. We don't need any exposed cover-ups to realize it's all a big myth.

But I am glad you have started to open your eyes, highwaystar.

Btw, is there any public discussion in the UK about the leaked e-mails? Because here in Sweden our media is covering up the leak too lol.

I think you're lumping me together with the majority of the liberals Slimebeast . The idea that man made climate change has been massively over exaggerated has been my opinion for months, maybe years now. It's just that these latest leaked e-mails sort of confirm what I thought, that people are pressured to provide worst case scenarios for the sake of political and media gains.

As for discussion; The e-mails were in the papers for a couple of days, but it's been mostly an internet topic since then. The papers and TV stations don't have much to gain by dwelling on these e-mails. Climate change sells.

I knew about the Gore-acles farce years ago.  I now sit back w/ popcorn and watch this hippie crap obliterate from within.  Btw, the Copenhagen PR stunt has ended early b/c Africa walked out ;)  http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/World-News/Copenhagen-Climate-Change-Summit-G77-Group-Of-Developing-Countries-Walk-Out-As-Protest/Article/200912215499846?lpos=World_News_Top_Stories_Header_0&lid=ARTICLE_15499846_Copenhagen_Climate_Change_Summit%3A_G77_Group_Of_Developing_Countries_Walk_Out_As_Protest

Edit: they are back in after being forced.  Hell this just gets better and better.  I wonder how the One will resolve this crisis ;)

Yes I do lol. Well I recall that you are fairly conservative when it comes to economics, but..

Doesn't it anger you, this climate scandal? I am outraged by it, because it takes away focus and resources from important problems, it puts restrains on our development and economy, plus it morally (and in other ways) strengthens people who believe so highly of themselves (all the Holy Saints, not just the establishment but there's hordes among the common people too).

Terminator...or resources dwindle...and chaos begins....every man for himself...with no government and shit anymore

That's about as likely as me playing by somebody elses rules, which I would never do. I only play by my own rules, nobody elses...not even my own.

I would say I am slightly central/liberal about economics and quite liberal/progressive/libertarian on social issues.

...

Anyway OT:

What I'm not angry about...

Usually I would have something to say about scandals. I think it may not anger me because it brings out an ecological side in people, it makes people look after their environment more. Ten years ago I don't think anyone I knew recycled, now I think I would hard pressed to find someone that doesn't. People are more conscious about what type of car they use, they are more aware of the energy they use and often buy recycled products.

I know the ends don't justify the means in most situations like this, but it is one great benefit that has come about from global warming which is very positive.

This scandal also re-affirmed something I knew, and others have been seeing it for the past few weeks like I have for a ages now. I guess that makes me less angry than I should be.

What I am angry about...

I don't like politicians using global warming for their own political gains. I'm against that. I recall an article in New Scientist a few months back where they wrote something which really summed it all up.

They basically wrote (paraphrased) that an honest action plan about global warming would be a one page plan that could encompass the world, but that doesn't fly in Washington. Politicians are so obsessed with political gain (trading carbon tokens as a resource, appealing to the green voters, etc...) that the simple one page plan will be distorted and become a 500 page plan where the true benefits are lost amongst political gain.

That annoys me, if these people wanted to help us, genuinely help us, then they wouldn't be for all this bullshit about distorting and hyping the real situation of global warming to suit their personal needs.

...

I wonder if, in an alternate universe where global warming never came to light, it would be taking more effort and money to get people conscious about their environment?

Let's see - Global wars over ever dwindling resources, a superweapon test gone wrong, prejudice, hatred, and absurd levels of selfishness over co-operation and common sense...

The last big screwup caused by human stupidity?

Yeah, that sounds good enough.

Correction, 'thought' all along.  You didn't 'know' because you are wrong.

@ ManusJustus

To be fair, I believe Slime was referring to the myth of global warming being caused by humanity, which is a myth.
