Forums - Sony - Does the original PS3 have an pre determined life cycle??

I don't think it will have a pre-determined expiry date, but dependant on usage, some of the hardware will break at some point.

As a guess, if you use your PS3 for hours a day every day, then I wouldn't be surprised if something went in it after 3-4 years, considering all the circuitry etc.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

Honestly, I doubt the original PS3 had a predetermined lifecycle. This is not out of any sense of a particular commitment to quality on Sony's part, but simply its own arrogance: once it designed that system, it did not think it would need another one for a decade at least. Especially given the crippling losses Sony knew it was going to take at first, going from launch directly into a hardware refresh would have been counterproductive.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

I got highly pissed when mine broke, and around the same time many others i knew did to, mostly launch models however such as 20GB or 60GB.

But pissed as i was and still kinda am... No, because everything will break down someday, however i must admit, out of all the consoles i've owned, (SNES, N64, PS1, PS2(SLIM), GBColor, GBA-SP, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, Gamecube, DSPhat, PSP-2000, Xbox 360, PS3 Etc... Etc...) My PS3 is the ONLY console to ever break-down on me, EVER, not one of my past consoles broke down on me ONCE, sure they acted funny at times, but not one of them ever fully broke down...

So... i dunno, i think overheating is the main issue with the PS3Phats imo.

Unfortunatley, quite a few origianl PS3's have been failing from either YLOD or Blu-ray drive failures,

hahaha like 1 or 2% maybe. Link or it isn't a serious problem.

i still have my 60GB bought the 23rd of march 2007, never had a problem
