I got highly pissed when mine broke, and around the same time many others i knew did to, mostly launch models however such as 20GB or 60GB.
But pissed as i was and still kinda am... No, because everything will break down someday, however i must admit, out of all the consoles i've owned, (SNES, N64, PS1, PS2(SLIM), GBColor, GBA-SP, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, Gamecube, DSPhat, PSP-2000, Xbox 360, PS3 Etc... Etc...) My PS3 is the ONLY console to ever break-down on me, EVER, not one of my past consoles broke down on me ONCE, sure they acted funny at times, but not one of them ever fully broke down...
So... i dunno, i think overheating is the main issue with the PS3Phats imo.
